Toyota Celica GT4 ST185 Group A
Hi guys
I know these aren't an MR2 but.. as a kid was a huge fan of the Carlos Sainz Castrol GT4. Wouldn't mind something a little different.
I've just seen 2 are for sale in Perth on Gumtree Website. Number #84 Red and #128 White. I know they aren't super quick cars these days, and alot slower than a S2T205 GT4.
Anyone know much about these cars? Reliability? Redbook value them at $8k but seem to be selling with a bit of a premium.
Cheers

you on toymods or ozcelica? pro more info there from owner etc.
the grpA st185's had WTA intercooler systems, steelwheeled turbo's, bigger airboxes/AFM's, all widebody, more agressive front bumber and vented(not scooped) bonnet, and the ecu has map's for 16psi i think.
still heavy cars and 230ps, the grpA will always have more value than the lower gt4 versions esp if kept in good original cond.
they may have had diff gear ratio's as well. i know there was a rallye version with close ratio but not sure if the grpA got them as well.
still have the same draw back's as the gen2 3sgte sw20's.

Reliability varies @ that age, but they'd be on par with the Gen2 MR2 if not a bit better since Japs suck with maintenance.

I'll give it a wash over the weekend and take some photos.
I just have to fix up the bright yellow spray painted brake calipers and the black(with gold tinge) sprayed 17" wheels. Not sure about the bright blue personalised GT-084 plates either..
Apart from that is immaculate inside and out and in orginal condition, stereo, keys, toolkit, manual. The owner kept the stock wheels with the Dunlop 215/50/15 tyres (can't seem to get tyres that size anymore) and put on clear indicators but kept the orange ones.

CONGRATS! I'm jealous....
I remember going to a dealer on Parra Rd 13yrs ago to buy a White Group A. We were gutted that it sold a few days earlier....

The white ones look really good. Not sure if brings back memories of playing Sega Rally at Timezone.
Also the first car I sat in the drivers seat was a white Celica ST205 GT4, my dads friend was manager of a Toyota Dealership and took it home with only 20kms on the clock.
I did look at a MY99 WRX, was newer, quicker.. but being a Toyota man, the pop up lights, rarity, solid build quality and cheap insurance of the GT4 won the day.

RedBaron, Congratulations on your purchase. I own a GT4 Grp A also. #94 (Black). Have owned it since 2005. Reliability of mine has been good. There's a few photos of my car on Ozcelica. cheers Steve

Nice work Steve. I'll go across to Ozcelica and check out the photos. The front must look pretty mean in black.
Good to hear about the Reliability. I copped a bit of abuse for buying a 1991 model.. brother trying to get me to buy a 2000 Golf GTI, workmates trying to sell me their 3yr old Ford Focus. Folks telling me to buy 3 door Getz with 5 yr warranty.
Was never going to happen!
