92 mr2 gen 4
Hi, new member. Recently bought an na mr2 to put my gen4 3sgte into. Caldina was my daily until some muppet rearended me. But always loved mr2s and now had a reason to find one. Caldina has been stripped, mate is sorting the loom and will go into the mr2 using the na gbox and factory gen4 ecu. Cant wait to see how it goes, just looking to have a neat clean turbo mr2, nothing over the top.

I'm not an expert but from what I have read if you are putting a 3SGTE in, you should look to put a e153 tranny in as well, the na one should hold up but only just. Good luck with the build - take tonnes of photos :) excited to see what happens

Gen4 swap is in, now the real fun begins to finish the wiring then exhaust, pipes etc But it's in, was na this morning and now turbo this arvo

No pics but a quick exciting update. The gen 4 wiring is complete enough for the engine to run!! Still need to source a new acc belt, cooler setup, intake, exhaust, etc. But its alive!!

Random thought - if you need a alternator bracket to put the alternator at the mr2 lower rear position, pm me and can send you one as I am sure I have too many. If you use a top mount long Intercooler in passenger top side (ATS Racing style) or w2a in passanger side then you can use the caldina alternator bracket/position. Best of luck,

Cheers for the offer. I have already modded the gen4 alt bracket to keep the mr2 ac compressor and caldina alternator position. Just need to source a 4 rib belt. Have made more difficult cooler pipes work so cant see it being an issue as I plan on using just the usual sidemount ebay special.

Have a read up on the top mount Intercooler by ATS Racing - much better cooling when air doesn’t travel in pipes / Intercooler next to the manifold and dump pipe, plus a better/bigger core (about twice the size) with shorter pipe run.
You can also get an eBay special (mustang A Intercooler) just need a local shop to wield some stay brackets. There are other eBay A core Intercooler that will better serve than mr2 side mount at a similar price. Measure up and see what works before buying (more info online).
Question is, as doing a 3sgte head/5sgte wanting to mounting alternator where caldina top position - sourcing a caldina alternator bracket. Did you have to modify the alternator bracket/engine mount drivers side or did it all bolt up?

That is a very sizable intercooler!! I'm going to use the caldina top mount cooler for the time being. I'm using the caldina alternator on the caldina alternator bracket. All bolted up as factory though the mr2 ac compressor didnt fit so I had to cut the caldina bracket down to fit. I'll get some pictures when I'm working on it again.

Well was a good day, pretty much all sorted still exhaust to go but all the majority done. But when we went to move it discovered a horrid sound and finally realised it was the input spline spinning in the clutch spline. I swear we checked it but here we are. Compared the mr2 s54 disc to the caldina box and its same spline count but slightly smaller id. So box out and hope the input is still in good shape. Not the end of the world but puts it behind schedule alot.

Box is back out, input shaft was in good shape, custom clutch ordered so come Thursday night should be back in and only needing an exhaust finished.
