WTB Gen 3-4.5 (ST246) 3S-GTE
Hey all, Blew a crack in my 3S-GTE block so I'm looking for any gen3 3S-GTE. Can also get a gen4 from a ST215 Caldina and a gen4.5 from a ST246 Caldina. Engine can be fully dressed, short block, long block, as long as it has an intact block. Not too fussed on what's out there as long as it can run and is somewhat cheap. Feel free to chuck me a message on what you have. In VIC but happy to pay and help out with shipping if you're interstate. Also happy to buy a 3S-GTE that's blown if the block doesn't have a crack in it . Cheers.

That's unfortunately a common problem with gen 3 blocks. Have you considered building a 5SGTE?

I've also seen gen4 blocks crack between cyl 3-4 water jackets under enough boost (I have a 215 caldina that did exactly that at 24psi), guess it's just a 3S thing. Was going to do a 5S-GTE, but the issue is the amount of work required to fit 3S parts in. I'd end up spending double of what a 3S-GTE costs to make a 5S-GTE in machining costs and parts, I wanted to fit my forged 3S parts as well but again, I'd have to machine the crank to 3S specs for that to work.

I understand completely. I just started the process of building a new engine for my ST205. I couldn't find a replacement gen 3 engine, and people are asking crazy money for gen 4. I am hopefully using the existing 3S block with a 5S crank. I already had a 5S bottom end to use, so that saved me some $$$.

This guy on Facebook marketplace is wrecking a ST246 Caldina. I might be interested in the sump, oil pump, and CAS if you buy the motor just for the block. Dude says engine has a knock. If link below doesn't work, search marketplace for "2003 toyota caldina" https://www.facebook.com/...e/item/321210717674391

Gonna message that person and ask what they want, if it's more than $2k I'm not gonna bother, a working gen2 3sgte costs that much. I've been comparing gen 2 to gen 3/4 gte too and it seems like they have identical blocks aside from the revised castings (I'll just be running stock power so I wont need to worry about that). If I get desperate enough I'll just go and get a complete gen2 and see what I can do to make it work (probably not much aside from a lot of parts swapping. If it works I'll have a load of gen2 parts for sale haha.

I have a working gen2 for sale though it is missing the manifolds and belt tensioner. I'm in Sydney.
