MR2 Spyder 2000 - Manual Conversion

Just done the Manual Conversion from SMT on my MR2 Spyder year 2000.
Job is completed in two days straight. Not a complicate task for a good "car electrical & mechanic".
Successful test run for the last 3 weeks, all good.

Some notes:
  • The manual conversion kits is from Monkey Wrench Racing (MWR) - USA. Around $4,000.00 AUD.
  • Ensure order RHD kits for Australia.
  • This MWR's ECU that come with the kit, the spec is USA. My MR2 is of Japanese spec.
    • This meant that USA has 2 upper stream O2 Sensors and 1 down stream O2 sensor. Japanese spec has no "down stream O2 sensor". Due to this missing down stream O2 sensor, the "engine light" is on with P0141 . MWR is working on it to fix the issue for Jap Spec. If anyone, know how to fix this issue, please let me know.
  • MWR is very helpful answering any questions during the conversion process. Due to time diff between Australia & USA, best send questions in email around 4am Australian time.
To this end, I am very happy for my Manual Conversion with the kits for MWR.
PS - If you want to get rid of SMT then do it now. My SMT is nothing but very "painful" and expensive to maintain.

MR2 Spyder 2000 - Manual Conversion ... continueSeveral weeks now that I have been working on this MT conversion.
To this date, we have found two issues that cause the engine light to come on.
    Issue 1:
As mentioned earlier, O2 downstream sensor does not exist in our MR2 2000 Spyder that came with Japanese spec. To resolve this issue:
1 - we have to build and place a "new O2 downstream sensor at the post-cat location.
2 - make use and rewire the "upper left O2 sensor" (B2S1) and extend its connector in the engine to route to the new created O2 sensor as described in the above, dot 1.
     Issue 2:
MR Spyder with Japanese spec does not have "Vapor Pressure Sensor - VPS" wiring nor the VPS component installed. This causes the engine to come on dues to that the provided ECU from MWR is of USA spec and it monitors the EVAP system. I am still working to resolve this issue, however. To this point, I am thinking of creating a "simulator"

    Continue...
    • The VPS has 3 wires including Ground, Signal and 5 volt ref.
    • The signal is wired to ECU pin A4 (PTKN) and expected a trigger signal voltage level between 1.3v to 1.7v in working condition. Hence, for simulator, we might have to find the way to "inject" that mentioned trigger voltage to ECU/A4 pin?... still working on it!
