So after further investigation, turns out it isnt the head gasket. It was due to simply the extremely cool temparatures. an intermittent ignition lead and one of my co workers thinking that pouring the reminants of his water bottle into my exhaust would be "funny"

I have been making some progress with getting the v6 prepped. The tuner is doing me an amazing price on a custom loom and ECU, so I dont have to worry about that side of things. Uni has sapped me on time so hopefully over the holidays I will have some more time to focus on that

I managed to get a turbo box, and a friend pulled it apart for me (well I helped a little :P)
The box had some pretty bad water damage, it was nearly completely full of water at some point in time. Never the less, i still salvaged a case, the shifter components and a good factory LSD

My plan with the gearbox is to get a camry box and install the internals into the mr2 box. This will give me long ratios and a LSD

Whilst procrastinating an assignment the other day, I made some more progress on my prototype engine tyre rack. This mounts to the strut tower and protrudes out where the side panels would be. A rack then slots in over the top and will eventually have a bolt that goes through the assembly to secure it there.

I will need to make it a bit more basket shaped, as at the moment the wheels dont sit in there too well. I also need to look into the legalities of this. Not sure if it comes under roof racks or what :P

I also got a couple of the original sales brochures. Very cool!

That idea could be easily adapted to make a bike rack too which would be verrrryyy cool.

I will keep you updated on the racking chris

Went out to QR today with a couple other Mr2's. I had an amazing time, learnt alot about driving and racing.

Stole these pics from Aaron :P

Todays driving really showed me that it isnt the car that matters, but moreso the driver. One example is the Excel cup cars. they only have 90hp but they destroyed me through the corners and we were about equal in acceleration. After a while I drove harder and harder until I could eventually keep up with them for two laps but it was pretty exhausting!

Another example is a fellow in a HSV clubsport who wanted to race me on every straight, but when it came to the corners I was able to grab the inside and take him

TLDR;
What I learnt today:
-I dont need that much power. I did find that my car ran out of puff at arround 6200~. A quick change to the next gear solved this issue
-Planting your right foot can save your ass
-180km/h is very very fast :P

Overall car performed flawlessly.
Cannot wait for the next track day!

Been a short while since an update. Havent driven the car much since I got the bike, maybe once a week if I'm lucky.
Bike life is good, except when you get caught in the most extreme hail storm in 20 years... Hailstones hurt!

Anyway, car update. I entered MTC 2015, super keen for the event! But I need to swap in a new LSD box before then. shifting is a pain currently

I also have swapped my 1MZ for 2 E153's, in which I will be making a hybrid, long ratio gearbox for a 2gr...

I am yet to aquire a 2gr, but have started collecting everything I need for the swap. I bought myself a set of gouky mounts, which look tops!

Just need a 2gr now. I'm aiming for 200rwkw+ with headwork and a better exhaust setup.

Is that an old skool 'TRX 850' V twin by any chance?

Been a while since I updated this thread...

Alot has happened. I went to MTC 2015. had to prep the car so changed the dodgey hubs and driveshafts for the old ones out of dannys car. also put his LSD box in the car. Big thanks to Craig and Danny for all the work!

Somehow squeezed all this in the car....and ALOT more Pretty much took half my workshop with me. and spare shifter cables ;)

Couple pics from the drive down

Having fun at the track

There was plenty of black SW20's at the track!

I had so much fun, best trip I have ever done. met heaps of great people and learnt a lot about driving. Will be back next year for sure. Unfortunately the brakes didnt survive the torture and the fronts were so warped I had barely any brakes on the way back.

15 Hours later, I was back in Brisbane from Goulburn. Never doing that in one day again!

Big Brake upgrade started, but unfortunately the rear brakes are now so big that they didnt clear my R32 GTR wheels. So, I had to buy some 17's. but what to get....

R32 GTR Vspec II's! So rare, only 1300 sets in the world.

They were in a bad state when I got them, had them refinished in traditional BBS gold centers and machined lips. came up mint!

Wrapped them in some Falken RT615's, nice and sticky :)

Also got a fixed back sparco sprint v to stop me flailing around. pretty darn comfy!

Pretty much up to date now, will update now and then with bits that I've missed. Just gotta get my mod plate next week and I will be all legal!

Great write up Eric. Glad you had a great time. Its a shame to see the old rims go but the replacements certainly made up for it. Look forward to catching up sooner than later.
