Great work Eric, looking forward to seeing how it performs at MTC.

I will be doing some more track events soon. Unfortunately as soon as the car starts to really develop boost, its either about to break traction or you would be over the speed limit I've been driving the car for about a week now and I love it! Although, it is nearly a bit too much to handle. I guess I am just adjusting. Torque everywhere is a really great feeling. Just have an intermittent belt squeal issue to sort through and I will be going to a skidpan on saturday

Quick update. Had a rushed dyno run this morning. made 213kw with a slipping belt and pig rich. The car also made 440nm of torque, with most impressively the car making 350nm of torque at approximately 2500rpm. The blue line is my current setup, purple is NA Hopefully will go back in the next few weeks to play with a few things.

Falcon Why have they used third gear for the run ?
I only noticed that this morning, it looks like they used the incorrect gear. Its getting another few runs in a fortnight to tune the fuel pressure and other settings, so i will instruct them to use 4th gear. They are also making a proper intake for me. My belt squeal issue was discovered yesterday. the tensioner is wobbling around a lot and not remaining tight. I have ordered a genuine Toyota one. Hopefully the installation will remove belt slip.

Good stuff Eric! Yes 4th gear is the most suitable gear to use on the dyno (not in all cars, but at least in an SW20) because it's the closest to a 1:1 gear ratio, but this is NOT as important as many people seem to think it is. Using a lower gear will increase the torque at the wheels, BUT it will also reduce the wheel speed proportionally, so the resulting power at the wheels is exactly the same. You may see a small power difference between gears due to changes in efficiency in the transmission, but that's all. One of the main reasons for using a higher gear on the dyno is so that the run takes longer and you get more data samples. Another reason is to help prevent tyre slip against the rollers.

Eric, the other reason people will use 3rd gear is for speed limits. Most dynos default with a 200km/h speed limit, unless they have been upgraded. Same as sometimes the car having a 180km/h speed limit.
Also as long as they ran the na setup in 3rd gear as well, it would have been a more accurate comparison.
We normally dyno cars in 4th, unless gearing or electrice limits come into play. Really high powered stuff we will dyno in 5th to help with torque management on the dyno.

I looked at my old dyno chart and it was also done in third. Thanks for the comments all. It is nuts to drive as it makes so much torque all the time!

Thanks to MCT and Rob K. for those explanations. I thought 4th gear being closest to 1 to 1 and less likely for tyre slip on rollers. Hadn't realized dynos can't stand the speeds. And I can vouch for it being "Nuts" to ride in with instant vicious acceleration ! Is good.
