Hahaha.
History is repeating...

Buys NA - has fun
Sells NA and buys Turbo - doesn't have fun, starts spending money.
Sells Turbo and buys NA - doesn't have fun, starts spending money on a BEAMS conversion.
Sells NA and buys Turbo (now on Opens) - rinse and repeat.

In an alternate universe....
Buys AW11 - Never sells it, has too much fun actually driving it, still beats Tree at MTC2014 ;)

A BEAMS conversion counts as an illegal modification while still on your P's. "Any modification that improves engine performance", VVTI would come under that.

You have a year until you're on your opens. I drove my turbo around for around two years while still on my P's. Just don't go lapping town on a Friday night and you'll be right.

It just seems like you're wanting to spend money on an inferior car with an inferior engine, while still breaking the same laws.

Ahahah

No it wasn't even that
I just never drive the turbo
And had more fun in my Na

I think I'm just going to stick with the Na
Do some handeljng mods
Then either convert to a beams
Or build a 3rd gen Na in a year or so

:) I had a lot more fun with the Na then the turbo

Yeah
The turbo is a waste if money tbh

I've realised the cost of building something decent with good power is stupid
Ill never use it, it's not a track car
Sees a track twice a year
And the reliability is ****

Mines my daily
I'd rather build something super reliable and responsive and stays next to a stock or lightly modded turbo

Not to mention ill be way quicker through the corners
And they sounds the tits

Build a high comp N/A with "decent power" won't be a waste of money? I guarantee you'll spend more money putting a beams in your car than a gen3 turbo.

I dunno about the NSW rules the in VIC the Beams is fully legal on P's, checked by the peeps themselves. Otherwise I would have a V6 right now.

Aaron you keep talking about the future but we live in the present. Just a heads up so you don't get disappointed mate

Ethan my man we've now reached eye to eye on things :) until we can afford multiple cars the SW20 will have to do double duties of daily/track with affinity for daily
With $1850 I got the engine complete with all electronics and attachments inc alternator, manifold, air box etc. shipping from SSS Auto. I'll admit the Beams conversion isn't cheap but it's less common. But get the LSD and u'll def have an edge over the others

Anyways your decision making is entirely up to u, don't let us influence too much hehe

Yeah in a sense

But I wouldn't just chuck an engine in
I'd buy a half cut

LSD box
Gt2 2860 turbo
Injectors
Pump
Ecu
Tune
Fuel cut defender
Exhaust
Cat
And that's at the minimum if I was going to bother

But with an Na
Internals fired rebuild kit. 1200
Cheap engine- 400
Cams 400
Injectors- 6-800

Ecu and tune

Plus the added reliability

my 2c,

Its like comparing Apples and Oranges - two different set ups for two different reasons.

Ive driven a Beams Powered Vehicle, was nothing fantastic - coming from NA Hondas I was actually dissapointed.

My daily is a bone stock 3SGTE (stock down to air filter) and is great for reliability, mechanically apart from service components has never given me grief and it will probably click over the 220,000km mark this weekend (or by Thursday if I feel like going for a drive). Fuel wise its getting about 10.5L/100km which is now mostly city.

Pure personal preference is, fix and enjoy what you have and then move on.

Fair enough chase
I just loved the raw feel of the Na
Te responsiveness mid corner in lower rpms
Rather then waiting for boost to hit
Each to there own :)

But on the other hand I loved the spooling then hitting boost
Being pushed back in my chair an it going like a rocket
Then off throttle and the waste gate psshh
It was great.

my 2c, I agree with Chase_d, fix the car you have now and buy something else when you need more power or a different powerplant.
Let someone else spend the money on doing the conversion or building the tough motor.
Over the years on this forum I've seen many an NA owner say they will build a high compression engine with cams, ecu etc and it never happens. I'd imagine that daily driving a highly strung NA would be crap with its lack of torque down low and lumpy cams, which if you are only going to the track twice a year just doesn't seem worth it.

If you want daily driveability and reliability you should stick to a stock setup turbo or NA. As long as either is maintained correctly they will go forever.

That's a fair call guys,

Maybe ill build one with 262 cams
Higher comp exhaust intake and a tune

And combine that with my sway bar coilovers
Bushes ball joints braces etc and some sticky tyres in dry and wet
And should be all I need

Ill try to make more track days but realistically
Ill make the 2014 mr2 track day
And maybe get down to Easter creek

I think your pricing on parts is abit off.

Anyway I just know you're going to have egg on your face when someone boosts past you and you can't keep up.

Not particularly

I can get aftermarket injectors, for 650$
600cc through contacts at work,
Bc cams are 380$
And a rebuild kit again from work is 1200, forged interns pistons, rods, gaskets, seals, studs and main bearings

That's nice for them :)
I've been smoked by stis and silvias then blown them away in the corners in my Na
So I don't really care who had the biggest dick
