14/1:

So my sideskirts are finally on their way. But trying to d some other things to keep this moving along...

I degreased the engine today and my god I have never seen so much flith in my life.  Good news is I can now see the color of my gearbox isn't black like once thought.

Anyway, my bumper and front lip were pretty ****ed up.  Sanded the lip back to plastic and the bumper down to having no scratches or blemishes.  Will be bogged and fibreglassed tomorrow, not having a front crashbar all these years has made the top of the bumper sag.  So need to stiffen it up a little.

Picked up a Greddy oil filter relocation kit on the cheap and have mounted it where the cruise control used to be.  As much as I wanted to keep it. Meh, might try hook it up at a later date.  The mounts have been painted black now and I think the whole thing looks ridiculous! Will eventually be braided hoses to and from oil cooler.  They are in the back ground.

Where the oil cooler will live from now on.  Using the same fan and shroud that was on the old intercooler. Perfect fit!

Had a bit of practice with the paint today and figured out how the car will need to be painted.  The car will be this color when its done.  Did this by sanding and sandblasting this badboy today.

in Primer

First coat, bitta purple.

Pearl coat, bitta blue/end result!

Pictures don't do justice how amazing this color is!  I cant wait.

Oh almost forgot, test fit of my new leather seat covers...need to fill them up with a bit.

Where did you source the seat covers from?

A guy on eBay. Maybe proseat? They fit really tight. But because my seats are old and lost the thickness of the foam its a little saggy at the seatbelt.  But some extra padding from clark rubber I think could sort it out.

Good work.

Wouldnt you be better off mounting the remote filter upside down so it doesnt make a mess when you remove it?

Cheers

+1
Also with many filters you can't trust the anti-drain back valve, and mounted upside down it won't drain out after shutdown.
Then you won't have a delay with oil pressure coming online when you start from cold.

Great work on the car BTW.

Thats why it is up that way. Oil will only go up to the filter when the engine is on.  Otherwise it will sit in the sump.

You will find that half the time the filter will dump the oil inside when you remove it, thats what happened to me when I had the Gen2 3SGTE.

The other benefit of having it with the opening up is that you can fill a new filter with oil when changing it minimising time the engine is without oil pressure when starting after oil change.  Most subarus have it this way.

I would invert it if it was me.

Cheers

Updates 23/1:
Engine bay is finished and painted.  The new W2A intercooler and oil cooler are in and everything is connected. Intercooler pipes and air intake im still not sure about as I dont know whether to mirror polish them or leave them how they are.  The filler neck for the W2A cooler has been mounted on the strut brace and the old coolant filler has a bracket and is mounted on the rear of the engine bay now.

The fan shroud for the engine lid has been painted gloss black, and i had to invert the fans because they were fouling the intercooler piping. Ill get some pics of it when the PP lid has been sprayed.

I have also relocated the charcol cannister to the boot. Have no photos of that yet.

Wow, that's a very nice engine bay! You're certainly improving the car dramatically.

There is an extensive build thread for my car here: http://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/tm.aspx?m=18316

Thanks man. My vision for it is show quality (with a bit of rawness) but it is first and foremost a daily driver.

Thanks!

27/1:
Frunk is painted and reservoir, pump and hoses have been put back in.  Its a little bit different to what I wanted initially but I am loving the way this colour is turning out!  Has so many flips in it. Also picked up a Cusco strut brace for the front.

Heat exchanger has been mock mounted.  Have still maintained the AC condenser and have about 10mm clearance from the fans on the HE to the AC. The radiator was moved back about 3 inches and some brackets were made so the the bottom support of the radiator could be welded into place. Here are the pieces I had made.

The foglights fit perfectly also and hide the 90 bends from the HE.  Still need to cut the hoses to make them fit a bit nicer.

Filling the system with water tomorrow and checking for leaks.  Then to decide/figure out whether I should run the pump constant or on a switch.
