All good. I'll just salivate over it first instead.

More progress over the weekend although not as much as I'm starting to run out of things to fix :)

I managed to get the tachometer working which has been bugging me since I bought it. The previous owner or workshop wired the tacho up based on what I think was a gen2 3sgte wiring guide. With a Gen3 installation the igniter wires are a different colour hence the the wire they connected it to was the wrong one. So now its all good. very satisfying to solve this particular problem. The engine cold starts on about 1200rpm and idles around 750-800.
I replaced the coolant overflow bottle hose with one that has a 90 degree bend in it as the hose that was there was pinched due to the sharp bend radius.
The engine bay fusebox had an aftermarket relay in place of the 'Engine Main' relay. This aftermarket jobby had short wires plugging to where the orginal should be seated. Very dodgy. My old daily driver Holden Apollo (Camry) conveniently had the correct relay so I swapped them over :)
I discovered after the tacho was working that the car was hitting the rev limiter very early. like around 6K. Pulled the igniter out and it was the worng one. After searching the net for the correct part number for the gen3 igniter it turns out the trusty old Apollo has the same part number :) I swapped them over and now it revs past 7K. The Apollo on the other hand does not seem to have a rev limiter anymore. I almost blew it up during testing hahaha.
Another fix over the weekend was to resolve the missing rear strut top nuts. The car only had two out of the three nuts for some reason. The other two were a buit rusty looking and mis-matched. The Apollo came to the rescue once again as its rear strut mounts have three nuts and were in as-new condition. Now the AW11 has three new nuts and Apollo two dodgy rusty ones per side lol.
I installed the Turbosmart boost tee that arrived in the mail last week. Made a custom bracket to mount it securely. It is connected but still running the minimal boost until this damn Gen3 map sensor arrives. Hope it comes this week as I'm stinging to see what its like at 15psi WITH correct fueling. Should be interesting :)

Ciao...

Updates:
Gen 3 map sensor arrived finally. Got that installed and confirmed fueling was correct.
Turned boost up from 7psi to 15psi. Big difference man, the little car hauls arse now!
The radiator top plastic trim and engine bay fuse box lid arrived from the UK so I fitted those.
Fixed the wiring to the dash check engine light.
Replaced most of the small vacuum hoses with new stuff.
Ordered a used front right front lip/spoiler section, wiper arms/blades, rear strut covers and a front fuse box cover from the UK.
Ordered new ignition components from twosrus. Dizzy cap, rotor and denso spark plug leads (Already changed the plugs)
Also ordered new T-top door seals from Kbox.
Had a good quality insurance approved alarm installed this morning. I can finally stop opening the doors with the key! :) If anyone is looking to have any auto security installed I would highly recommend Daniel from Carbon Car Systems. http://www.carboncarsystems.com.au/
He did my last MR2 and now this new one so he is experienced in SW20 and AW11 :)

To do list:
Wheels/Tyres (I want Jap rims but don't have the budget for them atm so MR2 spyder wheels will do for now if I can find a set)
Replace all four spreakers (Not a high priority as I now listen to the turbo at 15psi right behind my head :)
Install ST205 alternator brackets and relocate Alt to the celica position. Alt is occasionaly hitting the frame rail which bothers me.
Install ignition component when they arrive to get engine into a better state of tune and humming along. (On the current dizzy cap you can't even see two of the terminals they are so worn away! They are past flush with the plastic haha)
Fix two oil leaks from the pan and one from a leaky driveshaft seal.

Overall the car is running okay, still seems a bit rich during idle and has a slight hesitation transitioning to boost. Judging on the way the motor was connected by the previous owner I'm thinking the timing might be off. Will check that on the weekend.

Senor_2 - The Apollo went to a new home last night in return for $500

Yeah I'm not sure why I'm hitting it so hard :) Maybe I should slow down or I'll run out things to do?

Should be an awesome car when I'm done.

It already is awesome. I'd stop once you fix it & get rims. Then sit back enjoy for a year or two & consider a bit of sussy & brake upgrade. Bloody Epic car....I'm jealous.

Another update before I forget what I've done :)

I decided to check the ignition timing so I went out and bought a timing light, hooked it up and discovered that the timing was badly out of whack. The fact that the dizzy bolts were loose was most likely the reason :) Anyway fixed that up and now the car hums along at warm idle 750-800rpms.
Some reco wiper arms arrived from the UK so I installed those. Big improvment over the rusty ones!
Discovered the oxygen sensor is the culprit for the hesitation during part throttle and transition to boost. With it unplugged the ecu uses generic safe values which completely eliminated any trace of hesitation. I ordered a new OEM toyota one from Amayama for $160 which I thought was a bargain.
The new ignition components I ordered arrived so I got the work installing those. New cap, rotor and Denso Ig leads. Not much difference if any with this installation but at least the parts are new and will last a while.
Bargain of the week was a set of Jaycar 4in Coaxial kevlar speakers for the dash. I got the old model (Same as current but diff speaker cone colour) for a grand total of $40. They sound great even by themselves. A slimline sub will be required at some point.
The ST205 Alt and tensioner brackets arrived from WA. Thanks just_ace for sending those over. Car will be off to the mechanic soon to have these installed and the Alt relocated.
I purchased and installed a Cusco NA AW11 rear strut bar from Gorilla Industries. Looks great and I think it might actually be doing something positive for the handling.
Installed a new LED interior light panel in place of the crappy stock 10w bulb. The interior is lit up like daylight now.
I will post up some more pics when I get a chance. The exterior pretty much looks the same as when I bought it, its just the bits you don't see that have been repaired or upgraded.

Ciao...

Had a great result tonight with the MK1.5
I received a package from Japan today which contained a Gen3 oxygen sensor, gasket and insulator.
For some reason I get excited when I see a Japan EMS package with car parts :)

I was not sure what was going to happen after it was installed. Would it run perfect or the same as before (Hesitation, which would mean the old sensor wasn't broken and it was something else)
Anyway took it for a test drive and was pleasently suprised. The engine is sooo god damn smooth now, doesn't run rich at all and idle is fantastic. I'm loving the Gen3 now and can understand why people go on about how good it is. Drive ability is much improved over a gen2.
I am finally happy with the running of the engine now. Any further purchases for the engine will be performance oriented. Dump pipe, turbo, Power FC etc.

Other items I have recently changed or repaired are as follows:
Brand new Bosch wiper blades
Removed wiper switch from dash and re-soldered the connections in it because the intermittent function was not working. The switch works great now.
Installed Garage1217 LED cluster globes. Used green ones to keep the colour the same as stock.
Bought some decent Autoglym car wash. Big difference compared to the standard stuff!
I installed the passenger side new roof seal. This was much harder than I expected. Some of the bolts were rusty etc. Luckily I ordered a full set of clips and screws for the roof. Still have to do the driver side when I get a chance.
Ordered brand new clips/fixings for the boot carpet/panel set
Ordered a good condition complete carpet/panel boot set from the UK
I have a new engine lid prop rod plastic retainer clip on the way
Ordered a gear selector badge to stick over the top of the old selector badge. Got it from this guy in the UK. http://tandk-mr2-mk1-spares.piczo.com/mk1interior?cr=5&linkvar=000044
Scroll down and check it out. I ordered the plain white eagle version. I ordered all my clips and screws etc from him.

Next Wednesday I'll drop the car off at the mechanic to have the oil leaks fixed and for a general check-up. After that should just be drive and enjoy. (Will buy some wheels though :)

Thanks for all the comments too by the way :)

The joys of MR2 ownership :) Got my car back from the mechanic with lots of little issues that need fixing.

Needs both rear ball joints.
Needs one rear control arm. Have ordered both anyway.
Both rear wheel bearings
Both complete rear tie rod arms
Front castor rod bushes shot
Turbo oil drain 90 degree hose is radiator hose which is leaking.
Has a very small coolant leak from the end of the hose from hell. (Possibly a dodgy clamp)
Gearbox leak from above drivers side axle. We think its from a removable plate directly above the driveshaft.
And the ****ty one is an oil leak from the oil pump gasket :( Basically a timing belt size job to replace that one.

So I need to order some bits from OS and put it back in for all those issues to be resolved.
Apart from the above it still is a pleasure to drive. Will be even better once all is fixed.

In other news a full set of boot carpet/paneling has arrived from the UK which I will install tonight.

I can't make my mind up on what wheels to get. I'm liking the Enkei Apache 2 and also Work Equip 01.
Axis OG Oldskool would be okay (and cheap) but they are not due into the country till late July. Probably doesn't matter as I won't have any money due to the above repairs haha.
