lol saw a dude in a white mk3 auto turbo targa one the other day...thought he was soooo cool with his T top open.

haven't really had a look on the inside but I bet they're pretty standard 80s toyota...least the SW20 was designed ahead of its time IMO. :)

even with the digital dash it reminded me of a 1985 corolla.

MKIV and MR2 have that new awesomely designed plastic interior-  much better than the old 80s ones...

that being said MKIV is one of my favorite interiors, (except for the crap they covered the dash on.... :|

*UPDATE*
it wasn't coolant it was just water that went everywhere - still not good. The oil level is fine. However I did find a hose that didn't connect anywhere and a wire that wasn't connected.
I'm sure the hose goes to the throttle body however I can't find where.
Bizzare.

Where are you located? I can burn you a copy of my service manuals. 1600 pages long this thing is, has heaps of exploded parts ( kind of ironic) views of the vacuum and cooling system. Looks really helpful. Same for anyone else in my hood, more than happy to share it around.

Wtf? What source of brown murky boiling water do you have in your engine bay that isnt coolant?

Altho not a 7m, gen2 3sgte are prone to bhg if engines been neglected and driven hard with exxtra boost.

I dont know why theres a stigma around the mr2 cooling system being hard to bleed. Done it several times with engine swaps.

Yea I've got quite a few service manuals sitting around here. Hundreds of pages long and all in PDF, electrical diagrams etc - all for a 93 model though.

Where did the "water" come from? When your trying to accelerate beyond 3k does it misfire?

Well if there isn't coolant then his system was probably filled with just water at some stage and has gone rusty?

Its also a known fact that the 7M head bolts were not torqued enough from factory, although Toyota never admitted to this, they just silently rectified the values in the later specs.  I haven't heard anything similar for the 3S. ANY stock motor/hg is more likely to blow a hg if its been neglected and driven hard with high boost.

The MR2 system isn't hard to bleed but still a PITA, compared to front engined cars.

jdmr288: I have to accelerate extremely slowly so that the turbo does not start spooling (under 3k) for the car to move smoothly otherwise i get no acceleration at all.  I know that the turbo still spools because the boost gauge still winds up to 9psi and i can hear the air intake (pod filter directly under a toms snorkel).

It could be that the system was just water and no coolant.  To be honest i'm not quite sure if i should start it again in case something else decides to blow.
A BHG would not be ideal

Well if there isn't coolant then his system was probably filled with just water at some stage and has gone rusty? this is the point i was trying to make, altho it may not be "coolant mixture" it's from the cooling system/what is being used currently as coolant.

Its also a known fact that the 7M head bolts were not torqued enough from factory, although Toyota never admitted to this, they just silently rectified the values in the later specs.  I haven't heard anything similar for the 3S. OP said his mr2 had a hard life prior and if it has just plain water that's gone rusty in his cooling system then i think a BHG and probably many other problems are quite likely.

Post up some pics of these hoses to nowhere - someone here will know what it is.
Like I said in the pm, maybe the brown rusty sludgy goo that went over your electrics has dried but left enough film to be conductive and create your electrical dramas.

**UPDATE UPDATE**

So after looking at the engine it seems that there was NO coolant in the engine at all.  The coolant pipe was dry (and rusty) as and the coolant reserve near the fuse box had nothing in it either - i mean NOTHING, bone dry!!
Wondering why the mechanic didn't check this when he did the service.........
SO i've emptied what coolant i had at home (roughly just over a litre and a half) and will get more shortly but hopefully it should hold the engine off until i can take it back to the mechanics.
THEN it's off to the sparkies to get all my electrics sorted out before rego

What were your engine temps looking like when you were driving if there was no coolant??

Surely you would have seen the engine temp get really warm?

Trying turn your sdub into a vdub?
air cooled engine!
First thing after the car acting up would be to check fluids levels,
oil and coolant.
Are you sure you don't have a leak?

Carless again :(
