My Sdub turbo is dying!!!! :(
Hey all, I ran into a few(hundred) issues with my car when i took it for a run to thredbo over the long weekend. I'll describe the symptoms, if anyone knows what could be possibly wrong with it can you let me know? I have checked it with a few already and they suggested perhaps an 02 sensor blew and i'm going to (try) to take it to the mechanics to see what's up. Anyway, here are the symptoms: NO acceleration after 3K revs in any gear if I put my foot down (going up hill etc) when i reach 100kph in 5th, the taco stays at 3K and will not budge Turbo still winds up as normal (boost gauge says 9psi) and BOV sounds when i let off Can hear air intake sucking in air When i got home my engine spewed coolant (i think, it was pretty brown) everywhere :( Stereo reset itself one HID headlight turned itself off When i lock the doors (remote) the hazard lights come on, then when i unlock the doors, the turn off Basically my car is dying and i need to revive it. Any ideas what it could be?

Check earthing points, alt, igniter, knock sensor.
Highky doubt 02 sensor, mr2 will run fine without just throw a cel.
Also afm or ecu.

Not gonna be much help, but can pretty much rule out the O2 sensor. Disconnect it to be sure, but the engine will run fine without it. First things first sort out your cooling system. If its leaking coolant from somewhere that needs to be fixed regardless of any other problems. Sounds like some sort of electrical/ECU issue. Is it throwing any diagnostic codes?

Did all symptoms happen at the same time or was it one thing, then another, then another? Turbo surging/no revs sounds like the AFM struggling to keep it's head above water. Check your battery terminals too to make sure it's not something as simple as that. Where was the coolant leak?

the first 4 things happened at the same time then when I got home everything else happened :( I'm sure the ecu is throwing out an error code but the mechanic at thredbo couldn't find the plug to attach to his computer. The coolant was near the air intake closer to the boot area on the left hand side

Vacuum leak. Check the hoses on and around the throttle body. Had a similar problem with a different car not revving past 3k. Found it was a hose missing off a charcoal canister.

These cars don't have a port to connect the scanner.you nerf to bridge the terminals (T +E1 I think they are please double check that before attempting this procedure)in the diagnostic port in the engine bay and check for error codes. Search the forum for error codes to see what they mean... I'm going with knock sensor is gone from the looks of it.along with some earthing problem somewhere
Cheers

bigh: It was coming from just next to the air intake near the wall to the boot. it's gone over some of the electrics :( Rizo may be right with the vacuum hose as i remember that it did need to be replaced as it was deteriorating. Maybe i'll just get new hoses for everything and attach them. I just hope the engine is ok, i don't really want to be replacing everything just yet. My biggest problem is trying to get the car from the city to hornsby to get it looked at again. It's jsut strange that everything decided to blow within a few days of each other, there must be a root cause for all this

The hose could be the source of your original problem, and then you just so happened to spew coolant over your electrics causing the others....

yeah that's what I'm thinking - I'm going to go with, it's going to be multiple things causing the problems now. :| check and replace ANYTHING worn in the engine bay. Start testing and cleaning earths (I did this to my car and found a few issues, that while they weren't causing problems at the time, could in the future. unfortunately things happen in older cars as they age. it does keep things interesting though :)

Haha, indeed it does. One can never stop learning about their pride and joy. It sounds like you are right. I'll have to scourer the interwebs for some hoses and other stuff (maybe a new 02 sensor) while i'm at it. I'm still miffed about the coolant thing as the temp gauge looked fine. Meh.
