If the coolant came out brown and not red, it's time to flush the whole system anyway. Also, WD40 or similar is great for dispersing water in electrics/connectors etc.

Sounds like electrical issues.
The coolant was just from the overflow maybe? and not an actual leak.

but it shouldn't be brown - should be green or red. Also shouldn't overflow like that. that's why there's room to cover expanding coolant.... EDIT: you also need to check the battery voltage, when the car is off, and when the car is running. check the earth to the battery, and wires to the (I'm guessing) immobiliser / alarm. Honestly it sounds like there is a lot of maintenance that may have been overlooked in the past.

Honestly it sounds like there is a lot of maintenance that may have been overlooked in the past.
I was going to mention this also. It may well be the 'car Gods' taking a **** but little things that are neglected over years, sometimes happen all fall down at once... It's sometimes easy to forget maintenance/servicing on an old car, till things break.

I took the car to get looked at in March and they did a full check up on everything.
Looks like i'll be taking it back again.
The coolant was definitely from overflow. I could hear it bubbling when i turned off the engine. There is no leak (that i can see). I'll check the oil again. The poor old girl has been neglected in the past by previous owners, i'm trying to get her back to pristine again :)

agreed. I blew my alternator on my test drive after doing a service and plug change.....because I was pushing it to see if it still retarded timing under high boost. :P

They obviously didn't check it enough...this is why I do my own work I don't trust most mechanic shops. There is a lot of dodgy practice around.
Sounds like the 'coolant' is mostly rusty water, which has boiled, and blown it self out of the overflow.

ok when you say it was bubbling, was it boiling? when I first heard brown coloured coolant, and now that I'm hearing bubbling, I'm leaning towards blown head gasket..... not sure if a BHG could cause a vacuum leak too though. Either way I'd suggest it's a TRUSTED Mechanic's job to diagnose the issue! Might be time to just go and buy something like this: http://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/tm.aspx?m=68635 . In all honesty if my car was doing this, I'd just put this in (assuming it's a BHG).

Lets not get ahead of ourselves...
it might not be a blown head gasket. The cooling systems are pretty sensitive so a good flush out + refill and check the thermostat and radiator etc might do the trick.
bubbling is normal when you turn off the 3sgte but boiling and ejecting coolant is not

BAHAHAH oh yeah! :) loved the shape of the Mk3 supras, just wouldn't go NEAR a 7M.... 1J hell ya :)
pitty the inside looks mega old.
and they're heavy.
