Had a little drive/poke around at this today, the noise is vibration based, as at 2k rpm in neutral you can hear a metallic scrubbing noise. Once in gear and driving, no slippage or noise. The noise is apparent at its worst when riding the clutch to take off or change gears. My initial thought is to bleed the clutch as the fluid is a nice dark brown :/

Failing that I'd be looking at either the pressure plate or the clutch fork arrangement to see what could be fouling.

Just woke up after "last night". A few things stopping us from getting the car tested and back on the road:

Starter motor is not turning over. Not sure if this has anything to do with the armature falling out of the housing. The starter motor was unintentionally disassembled when it was taken off the motor. IT will need to come off and be tested at some point directly off 12 volts :)

The subframe is possibly deformed on the left side, which is stopping the left lower control arm from being located. Also stripped the bolt on the subframe and unsure about the condition of the nut on the inside of the subframe.

Reinstall engine damper of some sort - not sure where that goes

Left axle might need some more pushing in.

Car is still up at Alex's and I intend to be there next Saturday to get the thing finished.

Here are some pics:

Severely damaged and worn clutch disc. Note how one of springs in the hub has left the hub itself.

A nasty little thrust bearing which probably failed a long time ago. It's shiny because it's been rubbing against...

A severely worn pressure plate.

Clutch remains on the floor. I didn't get a picture of some of the large "chunks" which were plastered to the side of the bell housing.
