Pretty sure you'll come to the same conclusions - Tristan or Tony Otherwise if your happy to do the work yourself, there are a lot of knowledgeable people on the forums.

MintMR2 - I'm really sorry to hear of your troubles. As you know from the pages of items in your invoice, we really went to town on your replacement motor and had so many things to fix and replace as the coolant housings etc were literally crumbling away with corrosion. We tried our best to fix all coolant leaks with new housings and hoses everywhere and I personally pressure tested it to 20psi several times both cold and under temperature so I'm not sure what went wrong but I assure you that we went to every possible effort to try and ensure a perfectly reliable job.. If a leak did show up then once again, I apologise. We of course would have been happy to fix it all for free as we do with all our customers. But I understand your distance and thus your displeasure. This is the first I've heard of any troubles from you. As for addressing additional issues, as you also know, we were working to a tight budget as requested and finding we had to replace so many housings, hoses, ignition leads that had literally melted into the head etc (once again, you'll see the invoice, the list was looooong!!). We actually ended up doing a fair bit of free work on that car as it just required more than the budget allowed. The thermostatic idle control valve wasn't working for me when I personally tested it. Glad to hear you got the idle sorted out - however that was. And again, I apologise for not being able to do whatever it was that fixed or circumvented the problem at the time. I did try very hard on that car. I personally stripped the motor to a bare head and block, replaced every seal and gasket, water pump, timing belt and idlers etc so I should hope its a nice fresh oil leak free engine. Even put a new oil pressure sensor in there for you as the old one was leaking and I wanted to ensure it was as leak free as possible. And as well as a new clutch and all the other things we fixed, including supplying a new motor, I think we managed to do a pretty cheap job for 6k... and given the state of the cooling system (ie multiple corrosion holes on various parts of the motor, not a drop of coolant, oil leaking from every possible place and of course melted components from the temperature this was pushed to), I think we managed to do a good job of fixing it. But don't get me wrong, if it still leaked, that's our responsibility and I would drop everything to do what I can to help you. I must stress that we are often having to work with 25 year old cars with 25 year old components. Sometimes bad luck bites us. All I can do is vouch for the items we did service and replace, and rectify any problem with them. If there was a leak from a new component that we supplied then I guess I'll just have to take that on the chin. But I'm not sure where it leaked from.. We do hold a high reputation here with, I'd like to think, the vast majority of our customers having positive experiences. I pride myself on our methods. We strive to have the best test equipment and use them religiously. All I can say is that we have never once turned a customer away when they've had a problem. Our reputation is high because we test the hell out of everything and always bend backwards and then some to fix any problem. ps. If we didn't call you very often after the quote, it was likely because there was nothing new to communicate, we were not running late and we were busy doing the work to achieve the end result within your deadline? Which we achieved, I believe. At $90 per hour, I can't afford a receptionist to call people constantly. The time you did call us and I remember talking to you and updating you of the things we found, I was actually just about to call - like really. I guess I shouldn't say that in future as it sounds corny and people instantly believe you must be lying. Anyway, once again, I apologise for any problem you had with the car. Though I'd like to hope that the huge number of things we did correct and resolve and fix in a small budget didn't pass completely unnoticed. And if there's any way I can help with the car in future, I'll provide the same bend over backwards service for you as I offer everyone! -Tristan WTFauto

Mewrt - Not sure who you are but I'm really sorry! There have been a few times when we've ended up just so far overbooked and I've had staff literally just not turn up for a week with personal issues.. And in the end, customers suffer as I cannot physically do the work - even staying here until midnight like I do most nights. But that's not your fault. We obviously didn't deliver in a timely manner and I'm sorry. As always, we will help as much as we can but I understand if you're reluctant to come here again. The guys at C-red are good guys! We get along with them great too. All the best and apologies from all of us here. -Tristan WTFauto

Tristan, it's great that you've responded, and take pride in your work. I have my own business and know that sometimes things can go wrong no matter how hard you try. Keep up the good work. I wish I lived closer so you'd be able to look after my SW20.

Hmm....this is certainly an interesting thread. Just to chime in with my 2 cents worth....I also used this forum to find an MR2 repair guy when I returned from Japan 3 years ago. I was also directed to WTF Autos by the regulars here. Subsequently I visited WTF and had some work done by them. I found Tristan to be a decent guy,who knows his stuff and the charges and fees applying to the work I had done were reasonable. I have no hesitation recommending WTF autos to any MR2 enthusiast. p.s.Kelmscott is about as far away from where I live in Perth as you can get.(Hillarys) If any northern suburbs guys need some stuff done, the BP Workshop on Dampier Ave. Mullaloo does very good work. The Boss there knows MR2s well and the staff are all good.I have all my day to day stuff done there, oil changes, brakes etc. Hope to see more of you guys on the forums this year.Time we got organized for a good Autumn run somewhere... Regards, FB

I'll personally vouch for Tristan. He flew across the country for me without charge to fix a motor he built which was struck by unforeseen issues. He also fixed a mess made by others. In this car game, things will always happen (no matter how good you are), how people react afterwards is often what sets apart the good from the bad.
I've owned my 2 for 15yrs now, multiple builds, failures & high points. I'd trust NO ONE more with my pride & joy than Tristan. I've never seen anyone as efficient/competent as he with these mid engined mechanical nightmares. Running a business & managing people can be difficult as you put your name on the line & are often caught between 2 hard places. Good to see he's still willing to fix any wrongs.
The motor he built me was a gun if not for the block weakness (which I knew of). MANY here experienced that motor in action & would admit it pushed them to get a bit more "crazy".

Hi, took my 2 into these guys and they seemed to know their stuff... They had a replacement motor in stock and had my car back within 2 days without any troubles! Gave me a follow up call a week later to see how it was going. Pretty sure they also specialise in rebuilding injectors and pumps! Have to say they're my new local mechanic!
