^What's the retail on one of those?
But yeh I wouldn't mind making some youtube vids on driving techniques/tips though I can't imagine it getting a lot of hits, or enough to grant revenue :P
^More than you can afford pal, Ferrari Vroom Vroom..... haha I'm thinking a video like the drift bible would be good lol. But for slower precise driving.

blacky83 To be honest I don't see this as revenue raising. Just because the limit will change doesn't mean there will automatically be more cops and cameras to catch speeders. I believe its designed to look like they are doing something about the road toll, but ultimately will have little effect. Reducing the speed limit generally just decreases the severity of crashes, whereas driver education would actually decrease the number of crashes. Despite what the government would say, the large reduction in road toll has mostly been achieved through better and safer cars, not different laws. Also I already thought Vic had mostly 100kmh limits. I've done the Adelaide > Melbourne trip several times, and as soon as you cross the border its 100kmh right up until you get to the dual carriageway outside melbourne. +1 to owning a motorbike makes you a better driver. The absolute dickheads will write themselves off in the first 6 months, but if you survive that then it definitely gives you a greater awareness that translates to 4 wheels as well. I disagree and think there will be more of a focus on speed detection on those roads that have had the limit lowered. These roads have been targeted as being 'blackspot roads' and as such there would be no point changing the zone/signs, if they are not going to enforce it. Many locals who have been doing 110 along there for the last 30 years, will be caught out by this in the 3 month 'changeover period'. I'll say it again, the State has taken the lazy way out again with this, so driver education was never a priority and probably never will be as long as the revenue rolls in. I agree about safer cars though, with the introduction of ESP/curtain airbags etc. I think has shown to be a huge advance in active safety. There are always many signs when you cross over the SA/Vic border to remind you about the 100 speed limit throughout Vic. Tree

The retail on my flying pig, is equivalent to millions of dollars of SA speeding fine revenue. :)

Accident blackspot (Wikipedia) An accident blackspot is a term used in road safety management to denote a place where road traffic accidents have historically been concentrated. It may have occurred for a variety of reasons, such as a sharp drop or corner in a straight road, so oncoming traffic is concealed, a hidden junction on a fast road, poor or concealed warning signs at a cross-roads. For some decades treatment of accident blackspots (e.g. by signage, speed restrictions, improving sightlines, straightening bends, or speed cameras) was a mainstay of road safety policy, but current thinking has it that the benefits of these interventions are often overstated. Effects such as regression to the mean[1], risk compensation[2] and accident migration combine to reduce the overall benefit. In some cases it has been claimed that the end result is an increase in overall casualties. In one notable experiment, a number of accident blackspots were "treated" with a null treatment - placement of a garden gnome, according to some reports. Accident rates at these points were found to have decreased significantly in the following period, a finding which is taken as clear evidence supporting the theory of regression to the mean. ^ This demonstrates that the Gov't are absolute experts when it comes to misrepresenting statistics in the interest of their OWN AGENDA.

Well holidays are coming up for me so I just might give it a shot at making a funny vid hehe. There's a black spot (downhill bend) just around the corner from my house which so many ppl have fallen victim to, including me T_T when I was going at 60km/h on a wet day with bald tyres. Funny the hospital is right next to it as well...

Honestly I have zero respect and care for what goes on in the mediocre world of child-like squabble that politicians "do" for a job and are consistently wanting payrises for because they feel it's necessary when your getting absolutely crapped on by the public for the doing exactly that. Downward spiral which will never end and unfortunately it's the people who actually take notice on the roads that suffer. I'm sick of the whole "setting up laws for the weakest link" agenda. How many people do you see driving at 110km/h with nothing more than a couple of fingers on the steering wheel, or on a mobile, or too busy playing with their hair while driving? Try doing that at 140 - that for me is instantly 2 hands on the wheel, music down, focus on everything in front of me. We need to be following European standards for just about everything relating to transport. I believe Sweden or somewhere like that have MANDATORY defensive driving classes/skidpan sessions before your even allowed to get your license. Very strict on these too. Don't pass - you don't drive. If you do pass, then your a whole lot better driver straight up that actually knows what to do in the event of a lockup or spin. Germany's autobahn - extremely famous for it's 0 limits within certain sections but if you break this, or stick in the left lane when your not supposed to - you get REAMED by the police and I'm sure KY isn't included with this violation. Yet they still manage to have fewer accidents on these sections of road than we do on 100km/h highways. Roadworthy checks of cars should be made mandatory and annually when you renew your rego - not just when you sell a registered car like here in QLD. These rules vary state to state, as does the legality requirements of cars. Why is it different state to state? This is the same country correct? Run under the droopy, swollen eared wench that is Julia Gillard. She's only there by default and I can't wait for her to fall flat on her face. But more or less it's the state/local government's that need waking up and need to apply/raise funds or steal a % of this revenue being brought in by the police to fund driver training etc. Lowering the speed will only reduce the speed of which a crash CAN occur. The underlying reasons are not being dealt with on the same scale that is being applied to revenue raising and this is absolute bull****. But then again - it only takes a couple of statistics from ONE fixed, signed (3 signs to be exact) speed camera on the M1 up here in Bris near the city...to point out that the vast majority of drivers just aren't taking any bloody notice of what's going on around them. This one speed camera racks up close to $300k PER DAY in speeding fines across 3 lanes..... It's 100km/h for at least 20km leading up to this and maybe 3km after it... Maybe all cars should just come out from the factory with a ****ed wheel alignment - might make people concentrate more.

There are some areas in VIC that are 110, seems to be getting shorter and shorter stretches though. It may be 100 all the way fom Adelaide to Melbourne now (which I can't understand), but I make a trip to the east of VIC regularly and there is a 110kmh speed limit, though i am expecting this will disapear in the years to come. btw, watch for the speed cameras on overpasses they have sprung up along many highways.

Another typical scenario (adapted): Gov statistician for M.A.C.: Our Roads are unsaaaaaaaafe! seeeee 13 people died on THESE roads in the last 20 years!! Politician: That's IT, I'm lowering the speed limit to fix everything. Where's that map again? Gov Statistician for M.A.C.: Yaaaaaaay, doesn't affect us because we're all city slickers and I feel like she's Done Something™. Politician rubs her hands in glee at the votes she's bought by being Tough on Crime® and alienating a fraction of her voter base. Meanwhile, no real safety improvements are made because this means punishing mature full licensed drivers who are all hoons and murderers and that isn't being Tough on Crime®, it's Revenue Raising©.

My wife and I have just returned from Germany and we were on a freeway. There is no maximum speed limit and the motorists seem really good. On average they tavel at 130 kph but from what I gathered every one watches out for each other. The autobahn that we were on had only two lanes and everbody stuck to the right unless they had to pass. When they needed to pass they put on their blinkers and the cars on the overtaking lane would slow down to allow the car bus etc to overtake without any hassle. In France, Italy and the Czech Republic maximum speed limit on freeways, tollways etc was 130kph. In effect this means that people get to their destinations quicker so are less tired. Perhaps some of our politicians should look at what they do in Europe and follow suit. As a footnote the freeways in SA are far better than those overseas yet we are restricted to either 100kph or 110 kph. Cheers

South Eastern (Princes) highway, Salisbury highway, Northern Expressway, they are all very good roads but still limited way too slowly. THe souther expressway is a good road - well the half of it they built anyway.... The NT seem to have done a sensible thing and used 130km/h as the highway limit. I have not looked at which country roads SA plan to reduce, no doubt I would possibly agree with some of them, its the incosistency I hate. Highways should be just that - for fast safe travel
