The cars been going fantastic lately, I have been getting some of the Mod Bug, so its not likely that the car will stay standard for long haha.  I need to get the exhaust manifold machined, an extra stud and new gaskets installed as it is currently leaking at the moment. It is most noticable on a cold morning, I would be curious to see if there would be any performance increases from this.

I would keep to some basic modifications in the future:

- Exhaust System

I am planning on replacing the dump pipe and get a turbo back system with a Varex Exhaust Muffler at some stage in the near future. The Varex option will allow me to run a much quieter system for a daily driver and be able to crank it open on other days.

- Front Mount IntercoolerI am not too sure if this component will go ahead, I know there may be quite a bit of work involved in relocating transmission cooler lines and routing through the Intercooler Piping but it sure will look nice behind the front Bar and it should give a nice increase in power.

It was a great day to fix up a few things. I went down to Repco to get some goodies:  - H7 Repco Ice Blue Globes- TFI Racing Air Filter (I know I know lol)- Good Ol Tyre Shine.

The standard Air Filter system seems to flow really well, but I would love to experiment a bit. On my MR2 Turbo the intake sounded great with an open air intake.

At this stage I had removed the Air Filter and Blow Off Valve. I noticed the fuel filter has been repositioned on this model in a much better position compared to other Toyotas (which is just under the strut brace).

The intercooler had a large amount of bugs which had fossilised into a crispy shell lol. I noticed there were a few rocks wedged in on the corners of the intercooler. I am very sure that some of these bugs (and maybe the rocks) may actually be genuine JDM items.

The panel under the lights was not sitting correctly so I thought it would be a great opportunity to reposition it and change over my lights. Although you can get to the lights from the back, its much easier to remove the lights and change them from there.

Both sides done, its looking much neater now. I gave it the usual weekly wash and clean, it came up a treat.

I just had to add some TRD goodness to the back, I bought this a while ago and it was just gathering dust so I thought I could let it gather dust on the car instead.

Ahhh the Caldina manifold leaking problem...I'm pretty sure they all do it. Good luck.

I went for a drive up to Mount Dandenong/Gembrook today, the car drove real nice and handled great. I would love to get that aftermarket rear sway bar and boost controller to wind things up a bit.

You can definitely feel the weight difference when going through corners when compared to the SW20 MR2 but its still pretty tight.

My Japanese Trip Meter/Fuel Economy Meter seems to have gone off the charts, which would mean that I had obtained less than a km per litre and at one point more than 15 km per litre so there is definitely something a bit messed up.

I made a recent purchase. I know I promised to keep it stock but these things happen. I ended up scoring a Varex Muffler on eBay and i'll be getting the system installed in a few weeks.
I'm still half half on exhaust size, i'll be likely to go 3" with a resonator. Since the cat is in the Dump Pipe, and I won't be changing that till I repair the leaking manifold. So for now I may just get the main piping done and the muffler installed. This will be from the Dump Pipe back.
I'm looking forward to driving it once its done.

Thanks :)
The idea behind it was that both on and off volumes would still be within legal volume limits, which would mean that there should be no particular issues?

I have not been able to fit the system yet to check the fuel economy, but it has to be better than now lol. It must be 13-16 litres per 100km at the moment lol

So people lied when they advertised them at being 10L/100 km. Same as the ADR fuel consumption figure is misleading because ~63% is taken from "extra urban"/highway.
turbo + 4WD + wagon = thirsty.

Your not wrong there, I would be punting my MR2 around town on higher boost and I was getting more economy haha.

I think the biggest thing is Turbo + 4WD + Heavy Wagon + Auto = Very Thirsty. Like being stuck in the desert for 6 weeks thirsty....

More reason to do weight reduction and manual conversion hahaha

Actually I thought turbos are more efficient, driven by exhaust gases so during off boost i.e highway you should be reaping the benefits.

But then again you probably modded it beyond factory specs (who doesn't) and it is 4WD but a good tuner might help a bit.

You do tend to find your accelerator pedal pushed in so far its extruding out of the firewall, I guess where there comes great power comes not so good economy lol
With Turbo cars, and particularly Toyota models the fuel maps are kept very rich to ensure "reliable" running on warm/hot conditions.

Highway yes, pretty good economy I guess maybe around the 7-8 l/100km for me with cruise control.
City/peak hour forget it! I'm heavy footed so around 13 l/ 100km. Maybe 11-12 if I'm gentle but it makes bugger all difference lol
With my new 3" DP and exhaust (+Ethanol), I plan to see better figures.

Well disaster struck, I got into my car and I hear my passenger side mirror start making these clicking sounds, it ends up that the gear inside the retractable mirror mechanism has failed, and no matter what I did it would not switch off. So I ended up reaching for the fuse and unplugging it. I am either going to try repair the mirror with spares or try and source out another complete passenger side mirror in white :)
Cars always seem to break down around Christmas, my last issue last year ended up being a blown heater core in my old celica haha.

Good luck with it mate. I'm very surprised basically all the stuff works on my MR2 given how old it is. Testament to Toyota I guess. Get into an 80s euro car and things are broken lol
