The New Bus... Toyota Caldina ST215

Hey all,
Well the time had come to move over to a more family orientated 4 door. I was looking at something that would still have a decent amount of power, All Wheel drive, and 4 door/5 seater.

I noticed this ride below came up for sale and I couldn't resist.

Sorry about the terrible shots, I was only able to get a quick snap shot tonight but I will put up new photos first thing tomorrow.

1998 Toyota Caldina ST215
- Active Sports Edition
- Factory Bodykit
- 17" 6 Spoke JDM Wheels (most likely 5Zigen)
- Tien Super Sports Coilovers

Modifications will be kept to a bare minimum (I know I say it everytime) but i've been trying to settle down to save up for a house so the more factory mods the better :)

the fact that the gen4 rods will snap if you mod too much and up the power levels should keep a lid on things.

    nice caldina btw!

Your not wrong there, I think thats partly why I was so tempted to get a gen 4 motor. I'll have to behave myself to maybe just bolt ons and fmic :)?

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Yep yet another White car haha, gosh knows how many i've had so far.

The car feels very different to the MR2, while the MR2 feels very nimble and has excellent turn in the Caldina feels very sure footed for any driving skill level. Any half decent driver could happily put their foot down and deliver all the power in the wet and feel sure footed. The convenience of 5 seats for passengers and a very decent size wagon boot allows me to enjoy a lot of other interests which were often put aside for the lack of space (I used to be into Pocket Bikes a lot but due to the inability of storage I could never go racing).

The coilover suspension feels firm but comfortable, the bodykit takes some getting used to. And the japanese gadgets are insane, there is a electronic compass, km/L program, dual trip meters and a km an hour analysis system all within the center console.

    I'm sooo happy.

Looks great! they love to modify these things over in NZ. Pity the manual ones are mostly overpriced... but if I had a family this would be the first thing I would be looking at. - these really give most Subis a run for their money in a great package.
    Enjoy!

Yeah its a huge market over in NZ, I would love to go. My mate mentioned that they were as common as Commodores over there.

I was very tempted to get a Manual model, but this super clean example came up and I couldn't resist.

The car has a very decent amount of poke, I am not used to driving Automatic turbo cars.

The car is in fantastic condition. I could not find a single dent on it. I got started on giving the car an all round polish, there were some areas where the paint was quite dirty, even with high pressure cleaning and car wash I was still not able to get the dirt off. A very light cut and polish brought out the paint.

I took the chance to give the handles a clean, its amazing what a difference these small jobs can make:

Domma_aw11 - Thanks for the compliment, I heard there were heaps in NZ. I would like to just clean up a few small bits on the bodykit. There was just a small crack at the bottom left that just needs attention. After this I would be quite tempted to get a

I am in the market for an aftermarket Rear Sway Bar but as yet I can't find anyone that makes one for it.

Tree - Thanks for the compliment mate, its a fantastic ride. I may struggle to get this thing on the track, the suspension is pretty firm haha.

Bigh - Thanks mate :) I just used some light cut and polish, try keep off the edges as much as you can. The reason is that the paint is the thinnest in these areas.

purple5ive - Too true mate, its amazing the small changes that these can make. I love detailing this thing, the paint is fantastic.

I got a few other photos of it over the weekend too:
