Ive been thinking about selling my MR2.. It has an engine in it with 52000kms and A quaiffe LSD/rebuilt gbox. New BC gold coilovers and all the goodies NA lovers would want like the toms airbox, 4-1 header and fujitsubo exhaust. What would be a fair asking price for said MR2? I know i'd never get all my money back but would $9000 be too much to ask? I guess the best option would be to keep it :P

Hehe it seems we both ended up not too far from each other through different paths... If everything else is mint $9000 is a fair price (maybe slightly high) I reckon. But I'm going by details you provided not pics/inspection

I understand how you feel mate. I have been tempted to sell mine so many times due to problems created by others. It turns out, the first machinist failed in every aspect of the job he was paid to do. Fortunately, I have found one of the best around and Im almost there. Also had issues with the gearbox being rebuild three times and it still leaks! Still, Im pushing through with the end now insight. Hopefully you can do the same. If I had that engine expire, I would throw it out, buy a camry half cut with a 3.5ltr VVT manual, and fit that instead. Word is, its an excellent package, sounds brilliant with the right exhaust, very quick and very reliable. You could sell the box and engine bits to buy the half cut. If this 3SGTE of mine fails one more time, expect to see this package in mine next time round. Best of luck

I guess the best part is Im not in need to sell it, so it doesnt bother me to keep it. It just is depressing the stuff I have to now go through to get my money back. Nothing with this car has been easy so far. I had to get the gbox redone 3 times(under warranty)! and now the engine too(now he wont even do it so i have go small claims)... I am very happy with my 180SX it is really coming a long nicely, I've replaced all the bushing with poly ones and upgraded to BC racing gold suspension as well as getting the LSD shimmed. I just really like the ability to go down to a normal performance shop and being able to buy spares for it. Also best part is I'm no longer on my P plates so I can actually modify it legally.

The Silvia's are an excellent package in every way. Very quick too. In some ways I was keen to follow the same path but I had a R33 for a while, then played with the ST162 so figure the next path was the MR2. Its a great car in every way, but the support is harder than most cars which is a killer. Still, it doesnt matter what make of car you have, they all need a good machinist and a quality gearbox builder to eliminate all the major problems with any rebuild. Guess you better bring the 180 to the trackday challenge.

From what I've read through this thread is that you've had no real issues with the car, just endless issues with ****ers doing work on it for you. If you wanted a proper job done on your motor, I would have talked to Scope or Precise Grak on these forums, both a local QLD members and run workshops.

It's alright, Im keeping the sw20 as a second car. It will never go into another workshop to be fixed or modified in any other way. I will do any work that is required by myself. Im done trusting people with it. Right now its only problem is a broken shifter cable.

Ive decided to put it up for sale as im looking at selling everything and buying a BMW 135I coupe. Im putting this up for $8500 as is because it has a mint 52000km engine and rebuilt gbox with quaife ATB LSD in it and new hd cushion button clutch. + other goodies like brand new bc racing br coilovers full exhaust system from engine back. Nearly everything that is mechanical has been replaced or rebuilt in this car. If you want it with a road worthy it will cost $9000. Thats to replace the worn shifter cable and any other minor things that may be wrong. (there are zero oil/water leaks) pm me offers or for more info

yeah I have been doing some extensive research on the n54 engine and they say the revision pumps are well made. The latest pumps are only about $400 so worse case scenario would be replacing that. thanks for the heads up though :)

So I sold my 180sx and am now jumping back into the MR2 until the 86GTS arrives. There are a few small differences now with my mr2. It no longer has the fancy 4-1 headers or the toms intake or the fujitsubo exhaust. What it does have is a single out apexi exhaust. Sounds ok. Will be a fun car to drive around till the new car arrives in the next 6 months or so. Might go to some club events too :)

So your keeping the MR2 and buying a 86GTS not a BMW? Does the MR2 have a second hand NA engine due to the issues with the 'built ' engine? Which one is coming to the track day??
