I did some work on the car today. There were 3 things that needed attention -
- Intercooler pump
- Leaking distributor
- Broken CV boot under the alternator
As per the video I did on YouTube, I bought a pump from SSS Automotive and have fitted it. Because it pumps so hard, it was quite easy to bleed the system of air. I cable tied half a plastic coke bottle (upside down) to my filler so that it sealed and I then progressively filled it up while starting and stopping the pump. It didn't take long for all the air to come out. I also replaced the whole system with water and water wetter. I didn't use any Glycol at all. This should make the system more efficient. That was the first job done.
I haven't finished replacing the distributor yet because the new one hasn't arrived, though I did take the old one out and cleaned away all of the oil that had leaked out of the old one. It was the inner oil seal that failed. I ordered a new genuine Toyota distributor because I don't trust places that "repair" old distributors. I want to be sure that it won't ever leak again. Once the new one arrives, all I need to do is bolt it in and set the static timing. Easy peasy.
All I did with the 3rd job is to clear away all the mess. I plan to take all of my coilovers out, get the springs measured, and the struts rebuilt by Supashock.
http://supashock.com.au/I'll get them to recommend new spring rates and set the dampers to match. Before I send the coilovers to them, I'll get the car corner weighted so they will know how to set them. The red EVO that was at the MTC 2016 had its coilovers rebuilt by Supashock and it is a different car now. He took 2 seconds off his best lap time even though the day was 36 degrees.
As you have probably noticed in a couple of the photos from MTC 2016, my car looks like the springs are way too soft.
When I have the struts out, I'll also pull out the driveshaft and get the boot replaced.
As soon as the struts come back, I'll put them in, give the car a wheel alignment and then look for a track day to test it all out at. I'm hoping to break the 1.07 barrier at Wakefield.
