^That really depends on the circuit. Wakefield isn't really a track where higher power is heavily rewarded (unless you're using an Evo etc), hence why it's so popular (not to mention it's more forgiving than say EC).

I never had the chance to drive/experience your car, but I wouldn't classify the GT3071 as "too large" just yet. Your exhaust manifold likely had an influence there too. Not to mention your head setup. Ported head (which is a very general term), high lift big cams & oversized valves etc can as we know, increase top end power, but decrease velocity & potentially increase turbo lag.

Horses for courses & not all "race cars" are made equal nor is their intended use. You will not find turbos of a GT3071 size or smaller on many (if any) competitive WTAC cars, but you most certainly will with rally/targa cars.

I did a 1.08.4 at mtc so your estimate is correct. The ct26 has no lag at all though if i increase boost i don't get any more power - just more intake temperature.
I'll certainly research turbo choice properly before i upgrade.
Yeah i know my car is a lard arse. It will be lighter for mtc 2015.
I've taken out 7Kg already

This is a video of my previous racing car - a 1980 RS2000 Escort with throttle body injection. It had 98kW at the wheels. A fun little car.
There is a MR2 turbo in this video, so it is kind of relevant to this thread.
My best Wakefield time in the Escort was 1m 13s

I haven't put the head back on yet though I have been taking some more weight out of the car. I've taken around 30Kg out so far since the last time I drove it. There is still more to go. I went to Bunnings today and bought a 10 pack of cutting wheels for my angle grinder
Thumbs up if you like my Astro Boy photo.

  • Firewall skin and bitumen
  • Various other bitumen sound deadening that I should have removed years ago
  • The entire guts of the passenger door. The window is now cable tied in place in the up position. Yes I used massive cable ties
  • Removed the inner metal skin of the passenger door
  • The interior headlining
  • Driver side door trim
  • Unneeded wiring from the drivers door. I retained the power window.
  • Removed as much inner metal skin from the drivers door as I could without weakening the winder system too much
  • More to come.....

Under tray is on the to do list. I'm concentrating on getting weight out of the car at the moment. I want to get into the 1.07 range at mtc next year
