i don't think he does know what's wrong with the car. it had some rear impact but as to whether the chassis is bent or not is still unknown.
i still think your more suited to buying whatever the newest vehicle that you like, that you can afford.

Maybe the later model tail end that has been put in was bent or never installed properly?

Okay, problems that I know of: - Bent 'something' - Needs new gearbox - Needs new clutch - Oil leak - Coolant leak - Rust - Air con doesn't work - Tail lights don't line up properly What if I fixed all that and then the engine went boom next week? (which is definitely possible given the km and amount of thrashing it's had) I'd rather get something checked out that is 100% straight, perfect motor, perfect gearbox etc. and start from there. I am going to see the black car tonight. I'm not set on buying it. I'm just going to take a look. quote: Originally posted by Dudeman

Nah, that went in before the accident.

And Dudeman - if you really want my wheels, make an offer I can't refuse They cost me $3430 all up (with tyres). Keep in mind that's a custom R32 metallic gunmetal grey.

You'd hope with a full engine rebuild ($7500 with receipts) and turbo rebuild ($1300) that it would at least be close to perfect. Would definitely be better than mine..

how much of this did you know before purchasing the car? provided the eng's been rebuilt thru someone reputable then yes, but i have come across many "dodgy" rebuild's, i've seen one this week that's been passed on to another workshop to complete due to the previous mech's taking too long, it has rust on the back of the valves and the wrong seals/ O rings in various places.......

if there was so much wrong with the car why did you spend any money on dressing it up with bodykits and sound systems? if you are only spending 10k, you cant expect to find a perfect car.

That's exactly why I didn't put a bodykit on or do anything that wasn't a "bolt on". Sound system was in my first MR2, went to my Supra then this MR2. Once again it will make the trip to the new one if I get it [:P] quote: Originally posted by just_ace

I didn't know anything because I'm an idiot and didn't get the car checked. I think we all know that already though! The only thing I noticed was the whiny noise it was making, which turned out to be the wheel bearing.. so I replaced both sides just for the hell of it. quote: Originally posted by just_ace

From what I can tell, Milad hasn't cheaped out on much with this car. Obviously I'm not going to take his word for it, but he does sound very genuine. Here is some of what he had to say: The car was completely stock when I bought it 5 years ago. The engine was rebuilt shortly after due to one the pistons losing compression and causing internal damage. This forced me to rebuilt the entire motor which cost me around $7.5K. The was was carried out by Nizsport located in Cheltenham. During this time I also decided to rebuild the turbo as it was ageing (After all the car is quite old). I sent that away to GCG turbochargers in Sydney that are very highly regarded for their work. That cost me around $1.3K. The motor was balanced and all internals were replaced with brand new parts and the head was sent off to be machined by a workshop that also work on the V8 Supercars (I forgot the name). The car was also fitted with a heavy duty clutch during the rebuild. I have the receipts for the rebuild and turbo. The additional mods that I did to the car was to allow it run better with stock boost. A Trust style intercooler was sourced as the stock intercooler is utterly useless when the weather becomes slightly warm. The ARC airbox is a great addition to allow greater air and looking stealth in case your pulled over. The Cusco Coilovers are great are firm and provide great handling to the stock ones. The exhaust system was custom made 3" from the turbo by Ringwood exhausts. That alone cost me around $1.8K. The car has alway ran standard boost.

Sounds like ur in quite the pickel mate... I understand what ur saying about pouring money into this car. If you do buy this black one you do need to realise though that there can always be things wrong with the car that you dont know about, even if you do get a full check etc.. Just be carefull mate.

i guess theres two types of mr2 owners. those who like changing their car to what they want it to be and those who just want to buy it as it is.
ive spent way more then what my car is worth on mine. At one point i spent a heap of money rebuilding my engine which was a complete waste because it blew up the month after anyway.
I can tell you now. unless you have rebuilt it yourself or by toyota japan then forget about it. A stock standard engine will probably be better and smoother.
Its just a risk getting a new one because youll probably jumping from one boat into another thats still teh same destination "sht town"
Fix what you got slowly. its not like its not working and get it to exactly what you want it to be.
Since i bought my car about 2 (maybe 3 years ago) ive rebuilt the engine 3 times and then swapped a new motor in there put a body kit on it changed the wheels 3 tiems and many interior mods and i still have heaps of problems but thats part of the fun of owning a mr2!
what was that movie? the one where you build a relationship with a car? thats what you should do. right now your being a whore

The verdictWell after getting a false diagnosis from 3 different mechanics, I finally got my car checked out by Track Right (for free too! ) The chassis is not bent. So a big f*ck you to a certain forum member for putting that in my head [:p] and a second f*ck you to my mechanic mate who 'confirmed' it. It was a bent strut, which is basically the only thing that Serpico didn't replace. When I upgraded to coilovers it fixed the problem. So all I need now is a wheel alignment and I'm all good!! They also fixed my front sway bar when I was there. The end bit had come loose and was hanging off, nearly touching the road. I also checked out that black MR2. If anyone is thinking about buying it, PM me first.
