Hopefully booking it in this week. But no matter what, I will be moving on from this car. New gearbox/clutch will be like $2500 and at the end of the day it's still a 1990 with 260,000km on the clock.
This car would be fine for someone that wants a stock-like daily driver with a bit of balls.. but it's not worth pouring money into.
I need to pick a time to stop p1ssing money away, and now is that time.

I am taking all my bolt-on mods off (seats, wheels, stereo etc.) and then I need to decide whether to:
A) Strip the car of anything of worth. Deregister it and use it for racing until something major blows up
B) Part it out
C) Swap all the good bits to my new car, swap stock parts back into this one. Sell as a whole.

wouldn't be using a car with a serious/permanant wheel camber/alignment issue for racing, thats a worse idea than keeping it for a daily :/ (unless you have a death wish, in which case go for it :)

I've been told that it's perfectly safe. I guess it just wouldn't handle so good when turning, although I didn't notice it when I was doing hills runs etc.

So, anyone want to vote on the likelyhood that the next MR2 he buys will have something major wrong with it too and he will waste another $10k on it?

Jezza if you really wanted to - take your old car to a car restoration company that specialised in classic cars (people that deal with classic cars usually have a higher attention to detail) and give them the measurements above. They will be more then willing to get it all measured and sorted and they will put it back to how it was.

Had to do the same with my weekend (come everyday car till MR2 is done) car which had chassis damage by a forklift. Removed all the welds straightened/strengthened and improved it to the standard measurements. Total cost was a little under $1500 and got it better then new.

260,000km (on the chassis) isn't much at all - if all the drivetrain has been replace should last another 260,000km.

Personally, would fix up this car and all the known issues - at least then you have a clean car with a clean slate which you know everything about.

Surely guys here have spent more fixing up there cars.

i'm spending another $4.5K fixing the issues with my car and its purely ricer cosmetic, at the end of the day find the right car the first time around and keep it. Nothing will be perfect unless you able to buy it from new or almost new and keep it.

Yeah, 2 of my mates said they had seen your car darius [:P]

Mine is too far from perfect to spend all this money on, and at the end of the day it's still red. And I hate red lol.
I reckon give it another 20,000km and the engine will go boom. Then I've gotta spend another $5k - $10k rebuilding it etc.

At the end of the day, I don't want to be another jupiter.
Darius, you know exactly what I'm talking about [:P]

Surok, I would definitely buy yours if it was turbo. Without a doubt. But then you'd kill me. Coz it would end up with a bodykit [:P]

well honestly the way your going your gonna top him in no time.
yes he made the mistake of driving without insurance.
but this is your 4th car man, he still has his old girl.

i honestly wouldn't walk past travs offer. he knows these cars like the back of his hand
you were going to respray this car black anyway. and you will have to add the bodykit to it so respray it then.
how do you know the other cars arent faultless, no point finding out after you bought it.

Mr2's all have issues no matter how clean they seem. Mine appeared immaculate when i bought it and passed ALL the tests. Ended up having the head gasket let go 6 months later. Best bet with these is to fix the problems so you know for a fact that its clean.
Buying a new car and trying to part this one out will result in a huge waste of money.
