jezza_boi i did the timing belt/water pump/clutch when i did the swap. so they wouldn't have more then 20-30k on them i'd say.

In that case i wouldn't change the timing belt/water pump. But i would change the clutch.

as while your getting the gearbox done it'd only coast marginally more in labour costs for them to drop the entire motor and do timing belt side of things at the same time as compared to doin it seperately another time.
I don't thrash it very much. It's more of a daily driver with the occasional squirt. I have a feeling the last few owners gave it a hard time though. Especially when Serpico was saying how it destroyed all these Skylines, V8s etc. lol Just looking at my last service receipt. - RHR inner drive boot ripped - Leak at rear top of engine - rocker cover or distributor housing broken So going to fix those ASAP. quote: Originally posted by Serpico

Thanks for the info man Much appreciated. The clutch is definitely stuffed. No matter how far you push it in it doesn't completely engage. I think that has helped to slowly deteriorate the gearbox. Did you do a lot of hard launches? [:P] I've only launched maybe 5 times since I've owned the car. I try not to treat it too harsh because I'm scared I'll break something!

Also, while we're talking about my car.. I was speaking to dasic1 today and he suggested getting this:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Toyota-MR2-Celica-GT3-3-Turbo-Test-Pipe-Downpipe-/260677814998?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb19bcad6
Would that be a beneficial mod? I understand I'll need a supporting bracket too.

A larger downpipe will be useful if you have a freeish flowing cat and exhaust to go on with it - if you are running a stock setup I wouldn't bother. All the ebay ones tend to crack (the bracket will stop this 80% of the time - or atleast extend it's life a good bit).

With how strong the dollar is, i'd be tempted to go for a Berk downpipe. Has a flex section and comes with a support bracket.

Well I have a Departure exhaust on the way in a week or two. I was thinking of de-catting. I've been told I'll get like 10kw out of that.

I get so agitated when people start talking about de-catting...
Infact, silently I rather hope that everyone running without a cat gets caught, I know how much the fines are, and quite frankly I believe they deserve to get caught.

I also dissaprove of decatting. Its a danger to your health aswell isn't it? wouldn't want to leave it running in a garage...

Yeah, I don't really agree with it either but I don't think it's as bad as everyone makes out. The primary 'toxin' that the cat is converting is carbon monoxide.
Carbon monoxide doesn't really do permanent damage, it just restricts the amount of oxygen your body can get. This is because carbon monoxide binds to hemoglobin better than oxygen, which reduces the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood. If you were put in a room full of it with no escape then of course you'd suffocate to death (jews, gas chambers - same stuff) but many people breathe in large quantities of it everyday and they're fine, such as smokers. Actually I'm almost positive that there would be twice as many toxins in cigarettes than an exhaust lol.
Having said that, I haven't done any research on it. I was just told to do it by another member here. I guess I will think twice about it.

it'll gain you power if you have a crappy old CAT which isn't doing it's job anyway. i'm pretty sure carbon monoxide generally isn't too good for the environment, since when was smokers fitness/health level's considered "fine"????????? really regadrless of all the noob automotive comment's which are forgivable, that's retarded. you should go work for a cigarette company.

So I guess that a hi-flow cat would be the most sensible solution I'll have to keep an eye out for one. quote: Originally posted by just_ace

Trust me, I'm the most anti-smoking person you'll ever meet, but carbon monoxide in small amounts is virtually harmless. Just like nicotine doesn't actually have any serious health issues either. It's the carcinogens that you need to worry about. I did extensive research on the topic at work and wrote scripts for an anti-smoking video series called "YouDecide". Unfortunately it never got sufficient funding to be produced. But yeah, feel free to shoot me any question on the topic [:P] I'm definitely not a 'noob' in that area.
