RE: V6 camry, worth getting?

I've read that the weak points to the v6s either vs or mz is the pistons, rods and cranks are pretty good fr stockers And also when they where making the v6s they where slightly de tuned as they where amongst the power levels of a 2j flame me, but read up before you do so, they run fairly rich stock, plus they have poo pooty cam profiles eg my 3vz has 230* cams inlet and outlet with 10* btdc timing, and buy just tightening the afm and increasing timing via distributor up to 15*-17* timing it's been put on a dyno with gains of 20hp average, wich goes to prove the retuned theory Also another minor thing to point out Toyota has two main basic head designs Fe heads and ge heads The 3s is the ge head wich is purpose built by toyota for performance, ie further apart valve setup better cam profiles and smother inlet and outlet ports And in the v6s they are fe heads built for economy, closer valve setup, crappy porting jobs and lazy cam profiles, just portage an fe head also proves to give 20 and up to 35 hp gains, and compared to a 3sge or gte head you do get gains but I'm sure not as great as a percentage So looking at things differently, stock for stock we are both comparing totally different engines for totally different purposes And on another note even the 2gr fe is the economy style head, so that too has been detuned, how's that for food for thought ;)

Yeah no..
The 1mz isn't anywhere close to a 2j... toyota didn't 'detune' the camry engine because it was rivaling their Twin Turbo supra engine (widely regarded as one of, if not the best I6's)
The rest of your arguement is ridiculous aswell.

WTFAuto has achieved 550-600RWHP with near stock heads and cams while running on pump fuel. 2J is around that before people start going insane with the modifications to push up and over the 1000HP mark. I believe once a bit more development is done with the motor, it will achieve levels of power to rival the 2J. The 2J has been lucky to have been originally in a sport car that received a lot of attention from racing crowds. I'm sorry, I totally forgot about your ignorance, and forgot to speciffy that it was in regards to the non turbo one And the rest of my argument? Go hit up google a tad on the 3vz and 1mz before you ridicule ny argument, because stating it's not good isn't enough for me, sorry :)

Tristan is a freak, yes he got some very good power out of that motor. Spend what he did on a 2jz and you'll get better power. Sorry v6mr2, im not going to waste my time looking at poo poo that doesn't interest me, Your point is laughable tohugh. The camry engine was NOT detuned because it was more powerful than the Supra engine.

Tristan has spent a bit of cash because he's pioneering R&D on the 1MZ. The 2JZ certainly didn't just roll out from factory and a few months later it was laying down 600RWHP. A lot of money has gone into R&D for the 2JZ and made it the powerhouse it is.

Yeah from now on im ignoring everything you say, I haven't heard or seen somthing of value come from your username yet. quote: Originally posted by Knightrous Tristan has spent a bit of cash because he's pioneering R&D on the 1MZ. He has, and he has got good results, I do not expect the results to be comparable to a 2Jz though, we are talking a CAMRY engine here. I'm sure the 1MZ will produce some very respectable results but the 2JZ will still be the better donk.

Well the 2JZ is known to be (arguably) one of the best mass production engines ever built - it is even held in higher regards to the "mighty" RB26 in terms of outright strength and versatility...so it must be doing something right.

Your point is moot, potential and performance of a motor shouldn't be judged based on what platform it was marketed in. What's your next troll comment?

Yeah im not going to waste my time arguing with someone who believes an economy engine is better than a company's flagship performance motor.
Believe whatever naive delusion you want.

just becuase they have the same capacity does not mean they are in the same potential league.
as stated and agree'd upon the 1mz eng was design for the camry, a family car, and as such there are design's in it which prevent it from making comparable power to the 2jz.
i'm pretty sure tristan's 1mz has hit a limit to the power it makes as the heads won't flow anymore or combined with too much back pressure in the exhaust, but regardless he said adding more boost didn't increase the power the way it should.
i'm not sure to what extent he's had the head's ported and if there's enough meat in the head to open them up to 2j sizes.
the reason for considering the 1M in an mr2 is just due to the fact that you can't put a 2j in there. and i'd say the actual cost to make a 500rwhp 1mz is much the same as a 500rwhp 3sgte, tho the 1mz would obviously make more torque and quicker.
also altho tristan revs the motor to 8000rpm i don't think that's where peak power was. i'll have to check
