V6 camry, worth getting?
Hi guys/gals,
I have the opportunity to pick up a "repairable write off" 2002 camry, with only the body damaged, engine intact for only a few hundred dollars.
Is it worth getting to do the V6 swap? How much more in parts am I looking at spending to get it running?
I was looking to do a Gen3 turbo swap in the next year or so, but if I can pick this up this cheap then this might be the go.
Thoughts? IIRC they came with a 1MZ and a 3VZ right?

That the 1mz, vvti model, I think off the top of my head it is 172kw and 300 or so nm Extras you will need is the mount and a modified flywheel to Suit the box your planning on using Seeing As you have the hole car, you will have the ecu pedal wiring looms etc I have a 3vz fe in mine put in by the previous owner (Jaemus) wich is th older engine then yours with less power and more weight and I love it So if your bothered to do I'd recommend it :)

How much would the mount/modified flywheel set me back? Also which gearbox would I use? My MR2 is the NA so it's the S54 (I think?)
Do you need a new exhaust as well?
Would it be cheaper to do the V6 conversion over the gen3 3sgte conversion is basically what i'm getting at?

My advice is to go to www.twobrutal.co.uk and do a lot of reading. TB is a resource packed site especially when it comes to V6's and MR2's.

I have done some research and discovered that the 2002 V6 Camry motor puts out 141KW ATF @ 5200rpm and 279nm torque @ 4400rpm and the car weighs 1465kg.
Turbo motor is probably a better weight/power option but I suppose it all comes down to the cost of the completed installation.

*slaps forehead* why dint I think of that knightrous! That's prob one of the best wb sites for this sort of stuff They'll have all the info there And in regards to the kw at the wheels, dont forget they all come in auto ;) And as for box I'd recommend the e153, I had the s54 and with a few runs at wsid I blew the diff so might as well have it 100% from the start minus the doubts about drivetrain

IMHO, unless you're adding forced induction to the V6, you should just do a turbo swap. I don't understand why you would go to all the hassle of changing engines for only a handful more kw.

I kinda agree with this. Other than the 2gr i think the v6's are a little lacking and have a lot less aftermarket support. Tho it all depends on what your looking for. My old goals were a hi boost supercharged built 1mz for my sw20. The problem was that everything like pistons and rods would have to be custom made which blow the cost out heaps.

Fair enough, might give it a miss then. Anyone know if the engine will fit in a 1997 camry? The 97 was a 1MZ but blew the headgasket, if we can swap the 3VZ in it would save my housemate some cash.

The 2002 would be a 1mz as well and it would all mount up fine but wiring would be a bit of a beach since im pretty sure its drive by wire etc. You would need to swap the ecu and everything.

plus not forgetting the vvti in the newer model, so wiring loom would need some mods

That makes more power AND torque than a 1MZ anyway...and TRD dont even sell the supercharger for it anymore.

It needs a starter motor, alternator and the turbo manifold. Hopefully those wont be too hard to source :-/
