If you need any parts for your collection of AW11s, just let me know. I have now got 32 of them for spares.

Looking forward to seeing the rims on the car.
Are they Sparco rims?

Nah, they are actually ALT AT350 15X7" rims from Taiwan. I cannot find anything on the the interwebz about them but I like them the spoke design and massive amounts of caliper clearance. I just called them mini Sparco's because they look similar to these Sparco racing rims a friend has on a 180SX.

Downshift Track Battle - 21/04/2013
This event turned out to be a pretty good event for the first ever Downshift track day, big thumbs up to these guys for organising an event that was not only good for the competitors, but the spectators. The Holden Driver Training facility is a really well setup facility and the Norwell Park Circuit itself is a great designed track with a good mix of high speed corners, switch overs and hair pins.

Well all the preparation work for the TrackDub went well for this event, bar a small wiring problem that reared it's ugly head 10mins out of town, but it was fixed quick enough.

All ready to go!

 Videos:
Session 1

Session 2

Session 3

Session 4

Session 5

Times.
The TrackDub is car D18 on the time sheets.

My best lap of the day was a 1:07.7 during the 3rd session, went to my head in the last few sessions as I tried furiously to beat it, only to end up with over shooting braking points, missing apexes, over steering corner exits and a high speed off track experience on the final corner.

Have a few things to sort out on the TrackDub that are holding it/my potential back.
- Brakes, think I need to do a full system flush again as I think I have air in the lines somewhere, it was causing some insane squirrel braking that proved interesting. Other then that, the next 1" master cylinder made the brakes pedal feel awesomely better.

- Oil temp / pressure, need to get myself a digital temp and pressure gauges rigged up on the car, I'm getting some pretty crap oil pressure readings and I need to find out if it's oil related (too thin), heat related (thinning the oil out) or mechanical related (oil pump is rooted).

- Race seat, Recaro seat out of the SlushDub just doesn't cut it, time to blow some cash on a Sparco Sprint V fixed back seat and throw my harnesses back in. I'm pretty sore today from bracing all day yesterday.

- Tires, I've got the R888's but I really don't think I'm getting the full potential out of them and I need to learn more about setting them up correctly in regards to pressures. I never get the tires over 60'c (75'c is suppose to be a nice spot for R888's IIRC), but they definitely felt like they were baking a few times when I was pushing hard. I'm tempted to just buy some Federal 595RS-R's and do some back to back laps to see how well on the street tires. If my times are similar, I can save some cash by using the street tires and focus on learning to drive better instead of leveraging on a better quality tire.

- Suspension, I've got a rear tie rod that has some slop in it, so I need to replace it and I need to finish off my camber plates to allow some better adjustment of camber to allow quick adjustments during a track day. I need to look at my sway bars as well, I think the rear one might have to come off

Till next time!

In a desperate need for spare rims, I'm going to let my bogan side out for a bit.

15X8 +0 - 9kg - $85ea
Tune in next week when you'll see me joining the Commodore Crew in some peg leggers down main st.

$340 later...

Dat poke...

Front poke (Steering wheel isn't straight, hence the angle)

Rear poke

Nearly 2" of rear poke....

Was going to paint the rims white, but some how the black is growing on me...

Rear's need a 5mm spacer as they are currently rubbing the paint off my SW20 rear calipers, so they will end up effectively -5 offset     O.o

Time to price up some 240Z flares I think....

I agree with the black wheels, keeps the black/red themed contrast going.  I's also suggest the "mini sparcos" would suit the car better in black.

Black flares and black c-pillar trim (or smoked c-pillar engine cover) would make it look pretty tough.

Out of interest, have you compared IAT's with the snorkel boxed in vs. the naked pod filter?  I remember you saying something about plenty of air movement up from the ground when the car is moving so I keen to know how effective the snorkel is (and thus whether I should bother doing something about my SuperCrap Auto pod).

Go soothingly on the grease mud as there lurks a skid demon.

Nah, the spokey style rims have got to stay white, otherwise they look lose their sharp designer look :D
Steelies will look nice in both black or white, because they are just a dull design in general.

I'm thinking some carbon fibre flares and c-trims will give it a nice touch, along with some street cred (AKA, **** Factor)

Actually, I've been meaning to do some IAT logging with and without the scoop. Will see what I can do during the week.

The 15X8 steelies on the rear were rubbing on the SW20 22V brake calipers, so I needed to get some spacers. Being short on aluminium plate, I decided to recycle a pair of worn out AW11 rear rotors to make spacers from.

So out came the grinder, then a quick spin on the lathe and I had a pair of 5mm spacers.

Went to take it for a quick lap to see how it drives with these obscene offset wheels but the 20V started up and ran on 3 cylinder :( Quick hunt around the engine bay and a dead coil pack turned out to be the problem. So time to grab a couple more (extras for spares) to get it going. While the coils were out, decided to pull the plugs out and check them. Mein Got!

Looks like I'm getting a fair bit of moisture in the plug wells, which I assume is from washing it weekly with the garden hose to get rid of tree leaves. Checking some pen scratches from when I last changed the plugs, these plugs around 12000+km old and look pretty crapped up. Very choked up from a rich burn, but still giving a good bright blue spark. Noticed a few specks of silver on the electrode, so it's been knocking at some stage, time to get it on the dyno and tune the ignition properly. It's running rich in general for safety, but if it's knocking still, it's got to be the ignition timing being too aggressive.

Will replace the busted coil pack and then look at getting it on the dyno for a decent tune :)

The scoop came with a car I bought. Through tracking down the history of the car, I found that it was hand made by FeralMR2.

Received my photo pack from sirck.com.au of the DownShift Track Battle.
Good photos, just none of the good action, except my off at turn 7!
