MCT-MR2.
Thanks for taking the time to write such an in depth, informative article.
A lot of good stuff in there.

Great read, thanks for putting together such a good couple of posts!

I was very interested in comments with the W2A and core.

When I assisted the tuning on Jim's AW11 (Ken's old car with a Borg turbo), we found similar issues with the FrozenBoost W2A core. Running 18psi, once it reached 6000rpm, the MAT's rapidly rose into the 60's and required us to dial in some MAT based ignition retard.  MRC, recommended upgrading the W2A coolant pump to the Johnson CM90 pump (RobK runs this) as he felt the pump wasn't getting the heat away from the core quick enough.

Cheers guys.

Aaron. That was always a consideration over time. I went from the bosch "cobra" (which flow too little and arent rated for any pressure), then the ewp80 which i have run for 3 years now, and now the ewp130 (rated at 20lpm higher than the cm90). It has made no difference to the temps during a power run, but it will reach near ambient in about 8-10 seconds after a run. And i can do 10 runs or so before i heatsoak the water (4th gear pulls).

My boss an i have figured we need more core surface area to be effective. If we didnt have enough pump or front heat exchanger, it wouldnt cool down very quickly. The core doesnt get hot either. I may mess with the current setup a bit if i have any spare time (unlikely before january) but i will most probably change to a different core.

My big issue is cores are rated on airflow, and not cooling capacity. Most non barrel kits run a core of about this size (give or take about 15%, and the variance in core efficiency is probably the same) or the next step is to nearly double the core size.

I will probably end up contacting plazmaman or are about options (won't consider pwr, cant say i have had many positive dealings with them in the last 10 years.)

I will probably change the design of the front heat exchanger as well a touch, probably a twin pass design, and if i get adventurous enough when doing all of the above, ill move up to a 1 inch cooler line.

As with most things though, it will come down to time and money.
