REDUCED PRICE - FS: 1992 MR2 SW20 3SGTE Rev.2

FS: 1992 MR2 SW20 3SGTE Rev.2 - $24900

First off a bit of history about the vehicle. I found it in 2018 by complete accident. It was in a barn under a tarp with the whole engine being held in by 1 mount. Over the course of the following year, I paid to have it brought back to life to the spot it is in today.

The Car:

Built in 1992 and imported in 1997 this MR2 is quite unique in that it was the last of the rev2 vehicles and there fore Toyota had experimented with somethings in this model. It has an LSD in the gearbox and TRC even though it is technically a rev2. It only has 136,XXXkm on the dash and when I rebuilt it - all of the engine numbers matched the papers I had.

The Good:

It is a running, registered MR2 SW20 Factory Turbo and as people know they are getting harder and harder to find. The 3SGTE was fully rebuilt by a Toyota master technician using mainly Toyota Genuine parts with everything that needed replacing being done to get it running. I have a MR2 Australia forum post from the time. See here: https://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/tm.aspx?m=141249

  • Complete rebuild of the engine. New bearings, rings, machined head, complete VRS kit, re-bored etc.
  • Replaced with new Clutch & Flywheel
  • Replaced with new Camshafts
  • Rebuilt the alternator
  • New Brakes, Rotors, CV Boots, Steering Rack Boots.
  • Sensors: I had none, speed, temp, o2 etc. for whatever reason the old owner had thrown them or something, luckily not a massive problem but some of them were harder to find then others.
  • Starter Motor: Mine was cactus - sourced one from a guy whose K swapping his MR2 in Sydney :)
  • Intercooler: The one I had was smashed into pieces. At the moment running a side mounted IC with GReddy style BOV. Hand made the block off plate (Thanks US > AU Exchange Rate).
  • Wheels & Tyres: I hated the ugly faded ones that were on it + the tyres were RIP. Ended up using standard CHR rims with 205/45/17 BF Goodrich Advantages on the front & 215/45/17 on the rear.

The Bad:

There are still things needing to be done. The car has the engine and TRC light on. I have never really worried about it as I don't drive it a lot (230km in 12months) and especially not in the wet but it is something I would get fixed if it to be for a daily.
I replaced the suspension with some second hand stuff, but it still feels floaty to me, I would definitely be getting some new struts if I were keeping it.
There are still some trims to be replaced, including the worn out steering wheel.
The targa seals leak, something very common, and about $400 a side to replace with genuine Toyota Rubbers.

The Ugly:

I'm not going to pull wool over anyone's eyes, it needs a respray and some panel done to it. I have attached photos and am willing to help with anymore photos if anyone who needs.

Overall I loved having this project and am happy with the progress with it, however with another child on the way and a new house to put the finishing touches on, its time to move her on to someone who can finish her.

The price I'm asking is $24900. And could well be the last fully running, registered SW20 factory turbo under $30,000 come up especially with the soaring prices.

If you would like any information feel free to DM me.

Also note -I've posted this elsewhere. Ill update here if it sells :)
