Trey's 94 Gen3 Targa

Hey everyone!

I recently bought another MR2 - this time a red Gen3 1994 Targa, previously owned by Danny / DVS_MR2
Very glad to have my own turbo MR2, but it will be hibernating for another few months until I have my opens. I'm sure the people that have seen the car in person can vouch for how clean and straight the car is! Here is a breakdown of the car at the moment, copied from Danny's For Sale ad. Engine has only just been swapped in, and has fresh fluids also

External/Body
1994 Gen. 3 GT Aussie-delivered ‘3E5 Super Red’ Targa
Tinted Targa Tops
15” Japanese ‘Milano’ brand wheels – haven’t checked specs yet
Genuine Tom’s LHS/passenger side air scoop
Genuine Tom’s side skirts
Power Phoenix rear spats/pods
Rev5 MR2 clear front and side indicator

Interior
Genuine Dynamat for full (or if not, most) interior including boot floor (for heat reduction)
OEM Gauge Cluster with added alloy cluster gauge rings – Modernizes the interior somewhat
Genuine Momo steering wheel – red stitched
Genuine Momo gear boot surround
OEM Rev5 MR2 Leather Gear Knob – very hard to find

Engine/Drivetrain
Generation 3 3S-GTE engine, approx. 125,000kms
          + Healthy CT20B turbo
          + Stock exhaust system
+ Stock air intake system – very hard to find
LSD Gearbox
Red Samco radiator hose kit
Stoney Racing - Custom-made red silicone engine ancillary and air intake hose kit (vacuum hoses, etc.) and air intake hose kit
Jubilee Stainless Steel hose clamps
Almost full engine bay ceramic coated
New rocker/valve cover and intake gaskets

Here is a few photos for those interested.
You won't see much happening for now, but expect regular updates once I have hit my open license! :)

Thats just pornography! Well done man, its more or less how I want mine to be, you beat me to it haha. That engine bay is gorgeous. I can't think of anything you could do to this car haha.

Thanks Matt. All the work done to the car was done by Danny - he took very good care of the car and really put the effort in to make it complete. I'm grateful that the car is in such good condition - it means I'm free to play with it and not worrying about certain components being on the brink of failure, etc.

Won't be learning for quite some time but I'm definitely looking forward to getting some proper seat-time at the track once I'm licensed

    I haven't thought that far ahead. I don't think I will unfortunately
Mainly just due to being at a crossroads career/study wise so trying to keep myself as open to future opportunities as possible for now

Ahh, i saw this one for sale, looks absolutely stunning, and it had me thinking about getting some TOM's side skirts myself, as a departure from the two other cars I've had with Trust/Greddy skirts already haha. They're a good combination with the Phoenix Power rear pods.

Enjoy it mate, treat it nice and it'll treat you nice in return!

Thanks bud. I agree, Danny the previous owner did a very good job of matching the skirts and rear pods up - it gives the car a sporty 'angular'/wedge shape that it desperately needs

I do intend on dailying the car, but at the same time - I'll make sure she's treated like a queen!

Legally can't drive it for another 21 days. But when I can, I'll be driving the hell out of it! ;)

So small update, few people may have heard that the car died on me a little over a week ago (driving to work like usual when suddenly CEL and the car started idling at 300rpm/stalling out). I was very disappointed and was considering getting out of the MR2 game as I haven't had much luck with them so far

I received the car back today and I can happily report that my trusted mechanic gave it a good look over and gave it an all clear. He now even refers to it as "the beast" haha. Repairs consisted of re-gassing air conditioning system, slave cylinder pulled apart and lubricated to remove an annoying rattle I've had since driving the car, coolant system bled and having the car in running condition after breaking down last week (apparently nothing wrong - used OBD1 reader thingo and no codes evident?)

Unfortunately gearbox still has that god awful grind sound when going into reverse but the mechanic confirmed it was due to the lack of synchros for reverse gear - something I'll have to get used to. The repairs turned out to be much cheaper than what I anticipated so I'm definitely keen to get into some quality of life mods real soon

I think I spoke too soon. Car died on me again the next morning. Took the ECU out and it looks like I have a leaky capacitor (top left of photo). Going to get this sent away on Monday to get reconditioned - definitely not something I can do; I can barely solder speaker wires together as it is!

Checked my PDF electronic version of the BGB and unfortunately I see nothing referring to ECU layout. If anyone is familiar with the specs of the "C816" capacitor please let me know
