I'm happy to pay more if they charge more. It's worth it.

I think most of us agree...

Sadly I missed out this year because I had just purchased my car and had to fix a few things on it. Hopefully by the time this comes around next year I'll have sufficient funds and time to attend. I too don't mind paying more for Wakefiled I think its a great track and would sincerely love the opportunity to drive it with all the other MR2's on the forum.

Sorry for the late reply. Its not like its not on my mind!
So its clear everyone would like to keep MTC at Wakefield so I guess I will have to do my best to make it work but they are not making it easy. The latest pricing is $70 per day per garage! Hopefully something can be done but its a real issue as the garages are important at MTC. At that rate we may as well hire Eastern Creek for the day.. No matter where its held, there will be options to try some other tracks.
Having the dates changed to suit people want to include Toyotafest is something I would like to do as its good for everyone. It will also free up timing for a few people as its a few months into 2017.

I have also come up with an idea. A 'Grand Champion' for MTC. It will take all the results from the previous four years to see who is the most consistant performer. I wonder if Admin is number one..

Times a tickn steve. I'm good to go with Wakefield even with the additional garage expense.
I just want something booked in so i can start prepping.

Steve.  Let me say I have enjoyed MTC. 15 and 16 enormously. Absolutely great.  Does not need any other add-ons.
(Trips to other tracks, tota festivals, change of month, etc ). NOTHING.  Just leave it as it is when it is and where it is.
You have created and with the help of your small group you have been able to bring together an excellent event.
The time obviously suits a lot of people as evidenced by the number of very happy entrants.  (You will always get the odd one who will moan about it would suit "HIM" better for 57 s***y reasons).
The venue is conducive to the whole event.   Steve I have great admiration for all your effort in making this event into the great event that it is and I am privileged to have been a participant.  Oh. And I would wish to be there again in January 2017.   Regards  Doug.    PS.  We don't need a bloody grand champion either. Just let him prove himself again each new year.

Agree with the above, I love Wakefield and the timing. a bit extra cost isn't too much of a worry for me as I only go once a year.

Maybe we can buddy up for garages? most of the time you only need the garage when the cars broken so 1 between 2 could work for some people.

One of the highlights each year is the atmosphere of the cabins. It's like school camp but for big kids, with drinking. And volvo burnouts (well attempted)

I'm all good with sharing a garage, as Eric states, its nice to have but only required when a car has broken down & requires some form of repair.

I'd pay the extra for the garage, especially if its hot like last year...

I don't know of any other track that has accommodation and garages on site, which is why IMO, makes Wakefield the only venue worth having the event at. If it was just a single day event, I wouldn't mind so much, but considering how most of us stay 3 nights, the onsite accommodation is a massive factor.

TL;DR: Good things cost money, keep it at Wakefield, accept the cost increase.

Personally I'm keen for either Wakfield 2017 or the Southern Track Crawl mentioned earlier.  Why not have both - i.e. start the Track Crawl with a day a Wakefiled?

That said, timing may rule me out for 2017 so hopefully everything will keep ticking along for 2018.

Steve, could we also look into allowing modified class cars to have half cages? Most of us have a fair bit of power now, enough to get into some serious trouble, and I am looking for extra safety with a properly built half cage.

Cheers,

MR2 AUSTRALIA TRACK DAYS 2017

We have had promising preliminary discussions with Wakefield Park re the staging of this event in January 2017.

The suggested dates for the event are January 16 and 17. (Monday and Tuesday).

Since the change in operational policies at Wakefield Park in early 2016, the circuit is now closed on Tuesdays as part of noise abatement arrangements with the shire council and local residents.

However, in order to facilitate the two day nature of our event and the desirability of having it linked to a weekend to help interstate participants with travel, Wakefield Park Management will operate the track for us on Monday and Tuesday.

As flagged in many early posts on this topic, there have been increased costs in circuit hire and ancillary charges at Wakefield Park which will need to be met if the event is to continue in its current format.

Along with increasing pressures from his expanding business, it is hardly fair to expect an individual organiser to bear the heavy workload involved with the prospect of little no financial return or even a loss. I would even be nice to see him finally have the time to get his own MR2 to the grid.

I have had lengthy discussions with Steve and if we want to keep the costs within the reach of most competitors, then the event will need to be run on a cost recovery basis by a dedicated voluntary management group.

If we do this we should be able to offer the event in its current format for a few dollars either side of $600 which will include one night’s accommodation and the invaluable provision of the mechanical assistance Paul Brell and Geoff Fear at the track on both days.

Considering most single day track day events with timing currently cost $280 plus at Wakefield Park with up to 75 cars, MTC 2017 with a maximum of 50 cars still represents excellent value at this price. Two track days with timing, garages, accommodation and catering funded individually would cost you over $800. And in addition our package gives you the priceless MR2 Family fun, banter and camaraderie for free. Registrations (and garages) will be allocated in order of full payment.

Wakefield Park allow cancellation up to 60 days prior to the event without financial penalty. For our event the cut off date would be 16 November 2016 and all circuit and ancillary costs and single nights accommodation would be need to be paid in full by all participants by that date. Preliminary planning is that if numbers fall short at that date, the event will be cancelled and a full refund made to all paid up competitors.

Should we meet our target by 16 November  and the event proceed, there will be no refunds for cancellation after that date unless your place is taken by an entrant on the waiting list (we hope we have one). You will, of course, be able to transfer your entry to another competitor if you can find someone to replace you.

More details in the next few days as we firm up final arrangements with Wakefield Park. Meanwhile you can provide an expression of intention to attend to mtc2017@iinet.net.au and we will add you to the event mailing list so you are kept up to date with developments
