I don't care about the rain! It's the heat on Monday that sucks. Heat = bad lap times ☹

Rolling Start Main Straight Round added to the program
2017/01/11 18:18:08
(permalink)
As previously advised, the Clubman Circuit round of the MR2 Wakefield Park Challenge is unavailable to us this year as that particular circuit is unlicensed and as such, is unable to be covered by the event insurance. Faced with the prospect of considerable downtime for competitors during the Hill Climb event, the organising group explored possible replacements for the Clubman Circuit round. The most attractive alternatives were a straight line slalom on the back straight or a sprint session on the front straight. The Rolling Start Sprint session won out and we have successfully negotiated with both AASA and Wakefield Park management to hold a concurrent timed Main Straight Rolling Sprint round. A rolling start has been preferred over the more traditional standing start to demonstrate a little mechanical sympathy towards drive trains. - Two groups are sent out for a one our session of the Rolling Main Straight Sprint held concurrently with the CAMS Hill Climb round.
- Cars will be staged in the back straight prior to turn 10
- Each driver will have multiple timed runs starting in the main straight just beyond turn ten on the main circuit and finishing at the start finish line on the main straight,
- Once passing the finish line, drivers/cars must reduce speed immediately and proceed back to the staging area in the back straight via the access road between turn 2 and 3, the fish hook and turn 9 to the staging area on the back straight. .
- The fastest single run time achieved by each competitor will be added to their Challenge score
The Regularity Round scoring has also been tweaked slightly in response to suggestions from entrants in previous year's events. Only a few days now till the MR2 Family Reunion at Wakefield Park.

Shaz It also rained on the Sunday of 2015. I remember watching many cars slipping & sliding around the track. And If my memory serves me correctly we didn't get any rain until right at the end of the Tuesday.
Wow that's great if it's not too much trouble? Will PM you

The main straight sprint is lazy and not creative. There are many options that could have filled the spot. No Tarmac stage either? Aside from diluting the event, what are you doing? Certainly not something I would have allowed had I not been banned from running the event (I created) by Wakefield Park management after 'taking the fall' for forcing WP to honour the2016 contract with WP. I would like to be there to see my friends but there are others who shown their true colours who I have no interest in seeing. Best of luck to friends and supporters of the previous years. If a workshop is required to get your car back to a interstate location, I can provide a facility to get your car back on the road.

Wow you sound really bitter. Why be so critical of what the organisers have achieved for this years event? I say good on them for repairing the broken relationship with WP management and making it happen for all competitors. Wish I could attend to check it out but need to return to work on Monday.

Cafe is only open until 2pm this year. We have the tower office again, hoping the fridge is still there. So you can keep drinks cold if you want.

Wow you sound really bitter. Why be so critical of what the organisers have achieved for this years event? Am I being bitter for questioning changes which dilute this event? I find it a joke when people who are quick to judge me when none of these 'old guard' MR2 owners did nothing remotely like this in 30 years of the Marque, with many never showed up or supported this event through it's four years of evolution. If you cannot see constructive criticism, I really cannot explain anything to help you. I say good on them for repairing the broken relationship with WP management and making it happen for all competitors. I never questioned this. I actually supported PG on this endeavour as I did not have the time to secure SMP for 2017 due to work commitments. He is one of very few who have managed a working relationship with this new management. Wish I could attend to check it out but need to return to work on Monday.

It certainly comes across as though you are bitter about the whole thing. Maybe it's just how I am reading your post though? Why provide "constructive criticism" days out from the start of the event (which you aren't even participating in)? People are no doubt very excited about this event with some coming from interstate to attend. Why you think it's necessary to write such a negative post about it I have no idea. You could have just wished everyone a safe trip and an awesome time? It's fantastic that you started this event many years ago for MR2 owners. Hopefully it continues for many years to come whoever the organiser(s) are. Maybe the event should named in your honour?
