Come  on.We need 10 more entries this week to allow us to commit the event to Wakefield Park without prospect of an unacceptable risk of financial loss. No good saying I was going to go after a decision has been made not to proceed with the event. it is your community event and it depends on your support. Quite a few of your friends have put time and effort into organising this great event. All you have to do now is register and roll up for  GREAT VALUE trackday event. Don't be one of the NEXT YEAR crowd because if this one falls over, there is unlikely to be a next year. Just register now at mr2wpc.com. $200 deposit now and the balance by 31 December.

How are the numbers going, have you had many last minute entries?

If an additional 10x people don't commit, would anybody been willing to front an additional $265ea ($610x10/23) to ensure WPC17 goes ahead?

I'd be happy to, I actually suggested the same idea to Peter last week...

I've been looking forward to this event for a good while now, but another $265 would see me out.
As another possibility, could we (?) chase some sponsors? This has been done at some other similar events I've been to. Is there a Toyota/MR2 specialist out there who would like naming rights and/or windscreen decals advertising their business? A tuning company? Tyre supplier?
I'd be happy to support a sponsor in preference to other companies who are not involved.
It would be a great shame to have this not go ahead - it sounds like people are very excited about it.

It'd be fairly unrealistic to expect people to separate with nearly an additional $300 on top of the initial entry fee.

I figure that there will be enough late entries for the people who put up the additional $$ to be refunded after the event. It would basically spread the risk over multiple people....

Maybe the paid up drivers could be asked to add the extra with the understanding that when (and they will) the people who haven't been able to front up the entry fees for the MR2 WPC can that the extra money gets given back.

It really is a great weekend, it's the best way to enjoy your cars and your own capabilities in a relatively safe and totally legal way. There's no point in having great dyno figures and spending a fortune and brakes etc if all you want to do is engage in hard parking and talk it up.

Don't let the event die!

Thanks Rick and Tim for the funding suggestions but I don't think it is reasonabe to seek additional payments from participants for the event. While the Challenge represents good value for money at its present price, that value would certainly fade away with any substantial cost increase.  I am quietly confident that the required numbers will be reached within the next few days and the event will go ahead as planned. I have a lot of people who have assured me that they will definitely be there but, as usual, are just dragging the chain with registrations. Nothing new in this world.

Have also done a little successul negotiating on some costs which will defnitely help the situation.

In addition there are a few kind souls who are willing to provide a "working bee" arrangement to help some of you get your cars into condition for the event.

Still 74 days to go

If you have friends who may be interested, try your sales and marketing skills on them. You know what a fun event it is. See how well you can sell it. Look forward to seeing you all there.

DEFINITELY GOING AHEAD

Entries November 3 - Looking much healthier and close enough that we are prepared to take a punt on registrations from many of those who are still considering participation. Trimming a few costs to make ends meet and final details will depend on final numbers. Might have to cut the lobster and oysers from the BBQ and settle for sausages. Ditch the Rolex watch trophies in favour of something a little less extravagant but all the track components and related extras will remain.

This is great news! I had been getting worried that it might not happen.
Anyone who might be a bit scared of fronting up for track experience this is an excellent opportunity .
I have been very impressed by the respect shown by all the MR2 drivers on track.
Everyone taking care and keeping it safe. Good track etiquette .Well done.
I have attended the last two years and I am sure the same respectful attitude will be there again this January.
Soooo. All you blokes (and gals) who would like to try letting these little cars stretch their legs as they were
designed and not lose your licence.
It's great . It's safe. It's fun.  DO IT.  See you there.

There are still quite a few places left so don't be to shy about registering. For those of you still to make a decision, there is still plenty of time left to prepare your car.
