Gasconading not permitted!

I'll try and put some humour into this, not many people get my humour. I guess maybe it's just not funny!

gas·con·ade [gas-kuh-neyd]
noun1.extravagant boasting; boastful talk.

verb (used without object), gas·con·ad·ed, gas·con·ad·ing.2. to boast extravagantly; bluster.

Origin: 1700–10;  < French gasconnade,  derivative of gasconner  to boast, chatter. See Gascon-ade1

Here's a long winded rant from me.

Most of us have road registered cars, some of which are modified. These modifications are done so the car remains safe and roadworthy, any engineering requirements are fulfilled. The cars are insured for the modifications and declared to the state RTA type bodies. Some of us have race cars and don't drive mr2's on the road at all.

Some of the cars have incredible power, such as robk's. Rob has spent a lot of time researching and engineering his own parts and he has had all modifications passed by an engineer and the car has been declared by that engineer as being safe and roadworthy.

He's had the car up to a pretty decent speed, at Wakefield raceway. Rob doesn't drive like a fool on the public roads, he doesn't drive like a fool on the track either, just fast. Fast in a fast car on a raceway.

The majority of Australian states has pretty harsh penalties when it comes to 'hoon laws'. Big fines ($2000+) confiscation and destruction of cars, immediate loss of licence for 6 months then further penalty decided by court. Two year driving bans and possible jail terms. Don't argue the, "I'm a good driver, i'm driving to my ability" rubbish. Do what the rules and signs say or you could end up with no licence - no job. Or worse, kill your best mate who's sitting beside you and you end up in a wheel chair or bed for the rest of your days.

So if anyone wants to do the wrong thing in their cars thats their business, but don't talk it up here. Don't post links to it (different if its an example of someone else's stupidity) Don't say you pull hektik burnouts and give the po po the slip. etc etc.

There's this thread http://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/tm.aspx?m=109241#109313 - where some bloke drives like a gronk, gets it on camera, posts it here and there and brags about it. I imagine that the police would be looking further into that one with the publicity it received. They'd probably be looking at this forum too.

Nice cars, modifications, originals, race cars. All done right and lawfully. The authorities may look at this site as they are car enthusiasts too, no 'Gasconading' means nothing more than nice cars.

Admin and the members like this forum to be very lowly moderated, its nice and easy going. But don't post what is discussed above. You put a target on yourself and you bring attention to this forum and these cars from those that maybe don't have a sense of humour and it's their job to hand out defect notices, tickets and send you for full over the pits inspections and emissions tests.

'Nothing to see here, move along' - it's been that way here for a long time and i'm sure the majority would like to keep it that way. Put up stupid posts and they'll get binned.

'Gasconading' a silly word? Yeah, never heard of it before, used a thesaurus. Here's...

...words related to gasconading

boast
verb. brag

So anyone feel free to add your five cents worth in.

Agree with the above. Braging about doing illegal things dosn't belong here, as we all know everything is on record forever on the internet. I personally see the MR2 club as being a higher level of enthusiasts compared to the likes of those on NissanSilvia.com etc etc. You all know the type I am talking about.

At the end of the day, I dont want to associate myself with people like the link I posted. Posting up a video like that would certainly give people the wrong idea about our community and is plain stupid.

TL;DR = Dont post dumb sh*t on the internet for everyone to see

How's the saying go? Common sense is not so common anymore?

I was a member of a very good facebook group for sharing information, however I decided to leave it due to their blatent disregard for road laws, and was worried they were going to get public attention and I'd end up in the spotlight despite doing nothing wrong. Silly people.
