Ive had good results in both E153 and S54 using Castrol VMX80  which is a GL4 spec oil for quite a number of years.  This is what we put into Erics very old gearbox about 3 weeks ago .  Not ATF as stated above.

I will steer clear of ATF . I've read a couple times that even though it
Is recommended not to use it.. Ill have a look at the easy shift from caltex first
Run it for 1-2 thou if I don't like it ill change to castrol vmx 80
And do the same and if I don't like that ill go to redline.. If I don't like that
I have a shotgun, any volunteers? Lol

As I said, you can use ATF to prolong a transmission rebuild if your syncros are bad to the point they crunch on gl4 75/90. I wouldn't use it on a perfectly good box.

Personally never tried Castrol vmx80, but did use a similar nulon straight 80. Wasn't happy with the results on a dying e153 as it was too heavy cold & too light when warm.
