In my opinion, I would keep the revs under 5-5.5k. Don't hit the rev limiter, as the rings get unloaded and that not good for new ring trying to bed in. Dont be afraid to load up the engine, and dont go and cruise on the highway for a long distance as you will glaze up the bore. The other thing to be mindful of is the fact that running in oil is a very basic oil, so if you get it really hot, it wont be able to maintain a film to lubricate bearings etc, as running in oil does not maintain viscosity and film strength like semi and full synthetic engine oils.

Thanks MCT_MR2 & 5SGTE, I just did another 150km/ 2hr cruising today in the lower gears . I am planning to change oil/filter late next week before I heading down to Wakefield Park. What oil should I use? Syn 10-40w or higher??

As mentioned, many different formulas. Personally, after doing quite a few "run ins", my basic rules are: Use a higher gear so increased load, whilst avoiding boost Higher rpm (~5500) ok but avoid doing so until warm & without boost First few hundred kms, I take a few very uphill routes (springwood rd late night) Don't let the car sit & idle for extended periods of time As MCT said, avoid long boring hwy kms, but when forced to, I tend to slow down a bit so I can load up over & over again I don't try push an aggressive tune until 5000-10000 km, but I still get a relatively high hp tune after 500-1000km (my current motor did a lazy 300rwkw @ 18psi after ~1000km), upto 8500 rpm This is for a street car & motor that I want to last as long as possible.

Thanks. I wonder what's going to be like with 300+ kw driving on the race track! Peter@ Road & Race did the alignment & reset coilovers height. He mentioned how nice your car is with BIG power! The car just did over 700km now, I suppose it's past that initial period let's hope that this engine can last for awhile.

Dodgy DIY on the weekend - Side scoops Follow the guide from other members here, bought myself a VHT spray can & sikaflex 291 on Saturday. Painted the scoops on Sat, let it dry overnight and stick on with sikaflex and put some masking tapes to tight up the scoops. As I took off the masking tapes late last night, It peel off some of scoops paint!! what the xxxx! I had to taped around with newspapers & cover most of the car and respray again, turn out a very dodgy paint job!! The scoops attached on to the body like rock now, so at least it will direct more air into the air filter, side mount cooler & engine bay.

Thank you

13psi is the stock gen 3 pressure. Im not 100% on fuel cut but I think it is 18psi on the gen 3 (someone correct me if im wrong). Unsure about what increase you will get...but with adding a 3" turbo back exhaust and a less restrictive intake to mine, I only got a couple of horsepower gain.

Thanks Deco, just read thru your bumblebee build thread, so around the 150-155kw as stock gen3.

Thats about about the ballpark I would be expecting. If you get more than that you should be chuffed!

Don't know if you have IC upgrade, but anywhere between 150-170rwkw I guess depending on dyno. Toms car was a bit of a freak & made more with extra boost on stock ecu.

Replaced the old leaking cooler with greddy copy side mount with shroud & fan running at all time.
Also installed the goodridge brake lines to replace the old custom made lines which didn't even have the brackets to mount them properly.

First Track day 9th June 2014 @ Wakefield ParkDue to the wet weather yesterday, it actually gave me a good lesson of how the MR2 behave in the "WET". It was nice to met B24 & Adrian yesterday. Adrian even took me out for a few laps in his yellow beast. Went out the first time session and managed 1.14.6 with semi dry track and was hoping the track would dry up later of the day, but end up .....rain, rain & more rain. So lots of " under, under then over, over steer". The tail even came out down the straight as you past the kink managed 1.16 for the second time session. Overall, I had lots of fun and glad the engine was running fine during the whole day without any issue.
