I would like to congratulate Steve Aaron Caite and all others for a particularly well run event.
It was a little scary with so many very fast cars on track but all drivers were most obliging and exhibited really great track etiquette. Thank you all.  Even the blokes who spun in front of me were good enough to go where I expected . Great.   Enjoyed meeting so many new faces and especially the SA blokes. Congrats on a huge trip and on being so competitive. Very well done.   And what about the guy from Ceduna.  I caught him eating prunes each morning.  Showed in the results.   Great to meet you Rick. Love the enthusiasm.
From the times Ive seen Pat being overall top scorer for MR2 is a mighty fine effort out of Tassie.
Excellent race program . Well run.  Congratulations all and many thanks.
Regards   Doug.

Hey Doug,
It was great meeting you too... I loved seeing your immaculate SW20, I'm still working out how i can steal it from you lol.
A far as the enthusiasm goes, i didn't drive all that way to watch others go past me, so i gave it my best
Going for mods and power gains is an easy (and expensive) way to improve my times, but i can't afford that, so i'm going to try to improve the weakest part of the package (me) to try improve my driving to get better times.
As Mike and Adrian have shown - good driving skills allow you to compete with much more powerful cars without having to spend big bucks.

You have hit the nail on the head Rick.

The first year i did a 1:13 in a car with 190rwkw, the next year a 1:12 in a car with 110rwkw :)

Wakefield is a great track, i wish Winton and Wakefield were next door to each other..... and in Victoria!

IMO the best thing about Wakefield is that there is hardly anything to hit if you go off the track!

I showed this to many people at the event already (because I found it so amusing), but this is what happened to the silicon joiner from my turbo outlet while I was going down the main straight during one of the passenger sessions:

There is an extensive build thread for my car here: http://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/tm.aspx?m=18316

Tracking your car is addictive, next thing you are driving a **** box daily and your 'track hack' is something like this -

Rick it is hard to drive high power turbo fast it's hard work at Wakefield it would be ok at Mallala on longer straights ect. You would be better of putting in a good ecu, exhaust, tune your suspension and tyres and tune your beams to get the most power out of it and you could get 170 rwkw at a guess. I reckon I could see you getting a least 1.12 - 13 with your experience.

170rwkw on a BEAMS n/a is Massive power and certainly not a cheap exercise. Adrian is close to a low 1:10 at Wakefield if i am not misstaken? and is still on a basically stock GEN3 n/a engine.

Awesome racecar James but certainly outside the realm of most of us here!

The issue isn't too much power, its being settled with the track and knowing your car. Any 200+kw car should be doing a 10 without too much work. I did a 1.08.1 with about 180kw but still had plenty in it, Pat was very close to the 10 and Glenn is under the 10's now. If a S15 can do a 1.03 with 260kw then a MR2 should be pretty close with similar spec's.
Less weight, excellent suspension and balanced car is number one. You can drive the big power quickly around Wakefield but you need to get all the braking an corner speeds right. Having the right mines helps a hell of a lot. Ian and Adrian prove this point very well.
Thanks for the review on the trackday. Looks like its coming together. One of the key points was taking control of everything as there were a few issues in 2013/2014 with help from timing and Wakefield which ended up causing a number of delays with the running of MTC. I really kept a eye on everything so down time was at a minimum, everyone was looked after and the event was very close to schedule even though there were a number of delays caused by a few  unfortunate incidents to fellow competitors. The pug turned out to be a pretty handy service vehicle!
James: Just drive it mate. No mods please! You have a great little car there. Hope to see you doing some door to door racing in 2015.
Who is up for two 6 lap 'MTC cup races' in 2016? Must be a caged race car. 6 is enough to make it happen. Pat/Pete W/Peter G/The Pearl/Steve G/Aaron?/Owen/Luke/Michael B?

Yeah, sold the Cup 260, great car but I was just about ready to spend another ~$30k on it to get it where I wanted, so I thought I'd sell it and buy a proper race car (it rarely got road driven anyway) for around the same money with more performance... well.... I ended up spending more, quite a bit more..

Yeah, most people around here are alot more sensible than me.  I should have invested the money so I don't have to work until I am 70!  You obviously have a fair bit of BMW experience.  How do you rate X5's, around 2005-2007 sort of vintage, 3L turbo diesel.

Hi Steve, nah, no mods, no money left for mods!  I need to mod the nut behind the wheel first anyway.  It will be different driving a high DF car for sure.  The car makes around 260hp but is only 535kg, so should still have plenty of poke.

I might have missed the boat for door to door this year.  The car is still in portugal at present, should be shipping in next week or two.  As I didn't know what I was doing I didn't lodge my entry for the sportscar racing series up here, and i'll miss at least 1-2 rounds anyway by the time the car arrives, plus I also need to sort out the log books etc (CAMS is going to be a PITA, I have already been talking with them and they are most unhelpful, AASA not so bad.  The car is a carbon chassis car).

Maybe in a couple of years once I am running representative times with the car I might add some small boost forced induction, probably still run standard compression ratio etc.

Let me drive one of the high powered mr2s and I'll squeeze a good lap time out of it 😃

I think with better weather (drier track) and decent tyres, i should be able to get down to the 1:15's hopefully.
I cant see ecu and exhaust upgrades getting a Beams to 170rwkw when its only 147 at the flywheel now (assuming my engine is performing at its best). After i get new wheels and tyres, the focus will be on suspension - new springs, shocks and bushes etc. The engine currently has plenty of power for me atm while i am learning. I don't think i'll ever match Adrian, but if i can stay in his mirror for a session, i'll be happy.
