FINAL ARRANGEMENTS

I did a very detailed recon of the site this afternoon and have decided that the meeting point will be the Shell Service Station/McDonalds on the western side of the Gateway Motorway at Nudgee. You can get to it either by travelling along the Gateway Motorway towards the Sunshine Coast or from the end of Nudgee Road before Nudgee Road goes onto the Gateway Motorway.

I have chosen this RV point because the roads around the show site, which is on the Earnshaw State College oval in Earnshaw Rd (entrance between Patonga St and Approach Rd) are going to be very busy, and approaching the site from Tufnell Rd or Toombull Rd will be very slow. I spoke with the organisers tonight before posting this and they are expecting over 350 cars, and with one narrow gate to go through this may not be pretty.
There is a short back way from the Shell Service Station to the site, and to avoid the congestion on Tufnell Rd and Toombull Rd all you have to do is get on the Gateway Motorway and head north until you reach the RV point.  You can also use Nudgee Rd but I can't see it being as quick as the Gateway.

I ruled out other RV locations around Sandgate Rd/Northgate Rd because of the complications of getting into Earnshaw Rd through the Banyo area.

So the final arrangements are everyone to the RV point by 7.25am.  We will depart at 7.30am. When we reach the entry gate (right hand turn from Earnshaw Rd) you will be given a registration form which has to be completed and handed in to the registration tent. A gold coin donation to help the school with the upkeep of the grounds would be welcomed. A marquee and Toyota signs are being set up when we get there (we have a support vehcile to carry the marquee and signs) and we have been asked to park in a line about 2.5 meters apart so doors can be opened, cars don't get dinged, etc.

If you are late then just come straight to the site. We will leave a couple of spots vacant for stray MR2's but any problems then call my mobile check your PM).

See you all at the RV point with your cars gleaming.

Falcon, great to hear from you and even greater you are coming. Rumour had it that you had sold the best red Bathurst in Australia and bought a Goggomobil, but I told everyone you would never cross to the dark side. Looking forward to catching up.

To everyone else it WILL be a great day so also looking forward to getting together and showing these others what a true sportscar is all about.

A big thanks goes out to "El Presidente" for organising such a fantastic day today. It was great to see all the MR2's represented. I think a few more people now know what an MR2 is. The marquee was a great innovation and really set off our display perfectly, as the following photo shows...cheers.

Really good show. I had some nice comments on the car. Evan from a couple of the Young Blokes. Hardly lost any bits off the car too. Its the ones close by I was worried about. Those black and white and yellow guys droolling a bit and running their fingers over upholstery an wings an stuff. OH and did anyone notice the speedo stuck way way up high an the rear wing blown clean off one of em?   Yes I was worried.  He is gonna be looking for a replacement?   Very enjoyable day .Thanks Walter for organising it.  Much appreciated.  By the way .  Where Are the rest of you blokes??   Cheers  Doug.

It was a brilliant day. I'm really pleased we had representatives of all three MR2 models on show.
Thanks to Walter & Kathy for organising and transporting the marquee. It was appreciated.
I really liked this Event. Great to see the huge variety of Japanese cars from some of the earliest (the toyota S800, the pristine Mazda R100 and the Rotary Capella; it still had the factory plastic wrap on the door cards!!) to latest cars (Toyota 86). My favourite was the orange RA28 Celica fastback. What a beautifully restored and engineered car.
Looking forward to next event on 22/7.
cheers
Steve
