Try to get a multimeter on the lug on the starter while someone cranks the engine ?

yeh i can try that, see what happens. From what i see, it looks like the thing either is shooting out and cant turn the motor, or its not even shooting out.

If the bendix gear is broken or the teeth on the flywheel have been ground off, the starter will still spin. They take a lot to break and two aren't likely to break at the same time. The solenoid throws the big switch that allows high amperage straight through to the starter motor, without having that go through your ignition switch. Can you check to see that the motor will physically turn, pull on the fan belt, get on the end of the crank bolt? Loosen the plugs if that makes it easier.

yeh the motor is not spinning at all, i got my dad to turn the key and had a better look and listen. Im not even sure if the gear is pushing out fully or not. Battery i can rule out for sure, just tested 2 good ones tonight.

I think i got another stuffed starter. So ill pull it out tomorrow and see if it will run without being against the engine, and ill rotate the motor too a little.

seriously confused. Rotated the crank from the pulley and its perfectly fine. I have a starter which appears to work (directly off the battery and also i hooked it up to the car but not installed and it worked fine too). Im gonna install that one and try again. If that doesnt work i dunno what the feek is wrong!

What do you mean by this, using the wires but not bolted to the gear box? Turning the key and it cranks.

sorry, i meant i hooked the wiring up to the starter and it works (not bolted in, just free and observing if the gear shoots out and spins). Just making sure the wiring wasnt in such bad condition that it prevented it from even turning lol.

That said, the wiring is in good condition, i cant find any faults. Grounds are good and the main B+ from the battery appears good too.

3 starter motors (all bench test fine), 3 good batteries (1 500cca, other 2 are 380cca), ran 4 extra grounding straps from the gearbox and engine to the body. Checked voltage drop in the frunk and its exactly the same as the engine bay. checked the B+ wire from the battery to the starter and its physically fine.

Car started fine sunday during the day after installing the latest starter motor. Then sunday night when it was pretty cold (5deg?) it started this crap again, just clicking at the starter solenoid and then when releasing from "start" the solenoid will click back again. Appears like a lack of power from SOMETHING, but what? Logic says the battery (when its cold right?) but i tried 2 others which were perfectly charged (enough to start a late model corolla so im sure it can start this piece of junk) i have no idea in this world. Its driving me insane, completely insane.
