Ah great idea everyone. One thing I can recommend which was spoken from a professional was to take your time and don't try adjust the angle of the roll too much at first, adjust bit by bit. The more pressure you put on trying to bend the panel in one go, the worse its going to turn out and the more likely you'll crack the paint.

Well if you think it'll be handy for your car also that would be great. I'm happy to chip in also mate.
I'm going to grab a heat gun this weekend too.

So on the weekend beagle_senior (thanks again mate) and I rolled my rear guards using a eBay guard roller and a heat gun... Took no time at all to do and turned out very well I thought. Just make sure you heat the paint up properly, and it wont crack. So I still don't understand why these tyre places charge so much ($50-80/arch) to do it...

No more shredding my poor RS-Rs when blasting through the hills! :D

For the record.... I think the issue is the 40r18..... i have 40 profile on my 17s, and that is ideal for an MR2.

If you're going 18s, you really should be using a 35 profile. It will be more expensive, but it will prevent these sorts of issues.
I made that mistake with 50r16s too. They scrubbed bad....

Looking forward to seeing how this pans out Alex and Josh... any idea when you might do it?

Correct zmit, 40 profile for 17s is what you need. My wheels/tyres are 17x9 +35 wrapped in Federal 595 RS-R 235/40s but they run wide so its more like a 245, thus the scrubbing before. My car is also lowered on Pro Kit springs.

? Guards have been done, on both mine and Alex's...see above...

Great results there. Most places charge accordingly as not all cars are as easy to do and they have to cover themselves if something happens with the paint, even though they don't warranty it, i'm sure people will fight the claims.

I would prefer doing it myself next time though, your results were fantastic. I've seen them rolled much more than that though (basicallly a V shape) and at that point you are much more likely to chip the paint.

Thanks Adrian, I'm very happy with the results :)
We didn't want to go too far with the roll as I've heard that the more you roll it beyond 45 deg, there's a much higher chance of the paint cracking. Also, even if the tyre scrubs a bit now, the guard wont cut into it badly because that sharp edge is pointing upwards now. I only heard it slightly rub ONCE on a 30 min drive in the hills, compared to on almost every corner/bump before!

Yeah we did my guards pretty much the whole way, but Josh, like I said to you, if it still gets annoying, we can go further with yours..

I've pay $80.00  for both rear guards and I have done same job before with other guy that do at his own time in Blackwood.
both jobs were good, slow rolling, reheating the area and continue checking temperature before rolling again.
I have a 1998 and just installed a 3sgte 1994 in it, going very well.
cheers
