What Colour look best on a Sdub?
What Colour look best on a Sdub? Red or black, it was painted red originally. At the moment it is black. What the diffence between Gen1/2 to a Gen 3 Rear chassis subframe? Far as I can tell the gen 3 looks heavier and stronger.

It is all up to personal taste really. At first I thought my yellow MR2 looked awesome - I still do, but I've been getting a desire for a Steel Mist Gray respray lately.
The Super Red looks awesome on these cars also, but you have to make sure you're maintaining the paint otherwise it'll fade obviously (I'm sure a few coats of clear should help slow that process down)

Hoonsy, Stick with Yellow! SMG looks nice, but there's enough black/grey/silver MR2's out there. I haven't seen many yellow ones though.

Depends what you want to do with the car. If you purely want to track the car and dont care about the panels, just go acrylic or pressure pack black again. Why bother going for somthing nice if you are simply going to drive the car. And lets face it, anyone who regularly tracks their car will go off. Hoonsy It is all up to personal taste really. Stick with yellow. Its an awesome colour for MR2's Not to mention respraying a car is not cheap nor fun. It's truly a matter of "you get what you pay for" For some, a $1500 closed door respray may be enough for them. especially if its the same colour as the car was before. Sometimes this can work out OK if the guy can spray, and if you spend enough time block sanding the car. The quality of paint also comes into play. For others, they want a decent job. This is 5-10k at least

No contest really, it's gotta be RED!!! Ha ha The later rear sub frame (X-member) mainly has longer track rod arms, that give less rear toe out on braking when there is weight shift to the front. The story goes that Toyota did the mod after criticism about 'snap over steer' on early models in the hands of inexperienced drivers. It is an easy a straight swap, and I fitted one to my own car replacing the earlier X-member and found the car more stable on high speed cornering. Also gave better straight line tracking on typical country roads. I also should mention that some people actually do prefer the more 'lively' handling with the early X-member, and that's their choice, but I ain't never going back to the old one, that's for sure, lol.

The upkeep is killing me though haha! Nothing feels worse than giving it a bit of a buff/cut and then realizing how faded and oxidized the paint truly is. I do agree though, yellow MR2s are a bit of a rarity in Australia. I've only ever seen one other, and it's some middle aged lady driving around my neighbourhood Eric Stick with yellow. Its an awesome colour for MR2's

If I ever got the car resprayed to yellow, I'm sure a closed door would be good enough. Does depend on the workmanship as you said though - a $1500 paint job could be worth the money from one guy, whereas a $1500 paint job from someone else could be instant regret. Not to mention if I went to respray it, I'd want some clear coat. Paint transfer when detailing has been my kryptonite

Are we talking acrylic or 2K? Any time I've asked painters how much a 2K closed door paint job is they start at about $4000.

I have all the spray tools to paint this car and a large compressor. Acrlylic is the paint of choice, as I have painted cars before with this type off paint. I'm thinking Red as matches the inside.
Thanks for the info on sub frame. I all ready have a gen 3 sub frame on 92 hard top from factory then, as it is a late 92 build, great.

I just brought a gen1/2 and gen 3 sub frame, but I'm missing the right arm for the gen 3 Now need to find one. Or buy one. Gen 3 460mm long gen1/2 is 370mm, or buy a rose joint after market .

In all seriousness, I'd go for grey. But i have seen a camry covered in astroturf, could be an option? No buffing or mowing required.

Black, silver and red are all excellent colours for SW20's. Silver is probably the easiest to maintain. If you do respray, keep the side trim strips black, accentuates the lines of the car.

Maybe check out 'Road and Track' for the rose joint. As you probably realize, it is vital that those track rod inner and outer rose joints have no play, or handling can really suffer.
