this is general practice, meaning general in itself, there's not grouping together, anything can rock up from a 2-CV to a full blown racecar, if u you to be group go do a street sprint day and you wnt work about half a million dollar supercar closing in on you in in a blink of an eye

The race car guys are running around in $100k+ vehicles, they are interested in getting practice in to setup their cars, they are not going to ruin a days practice or a car by running into you, in fact they are probably more worried about you crashing into them. You are more likely to be run into on the streets where P Plate Commodores or Senior Citizen Camrys try to merge into you, however we all still drive on the streets :)

Don't panic, just hold your racing line and speed, the fast guys will get in and around you and be on their merry way.

Only problem is the guys in thr $100k+ cars don't actually own them, they and the excel cup cars and bemer drivers don't care if they trade a bit of paint. I have come very close on a number of occasions while holding the racing line.

Dodgee, have you been to one of the practice days or street sprints??

Aaron, Dennis and I raced against the the excels, they get close to eachother but not people who are not racing them... no one wants to wreck their car or anyone else's so I realy do not see what all the worry or fuss is here

I have raced against a number of classes with various speeds in heavy rain and perfect conditions with minimal issues. Yes everyone get close but that's the way you evolve as a driver.
There is more to driving a race track with others than just holding the racing line when someone is quicker and about to pass you.  You need to watch your mirrors closely, hold the line until the quicker car presents himself then move off the line by a small amount. If you are actually driving the racing line then move off line, the quicker car will see this then make the move. Once the move has begun, you need to make some room to make it as safe as possible. It is not the entire responsibility of the quicker car as you are both out there playing games. If you do not take some responsibility in a passing move you have a greater chance of an incident.
I am surprised as so much negative press about driving quickly at a racetrack as opposed to driving quickly on the street with traffic coming the other way and a high risk of hitting tree's, people, other cars etc.

Domma i have only been to general practice days both wet and dry. I am happy to do street sprint or time attack at least that way i am grouped with like performance cars and can concentrate on my driving and not my mirrors.

I'm happy to do it again, the good thing about the trackday challenge was learning how to present yourself in a racing situation, like B24 said.

Here is a clip from my last race at Wakefield. 40 cars on a 2.2km track with plenty of speed variation. Watch how I get allow the pass then move a little off line with minimal down time and low risk of accident. As you can see, everyone is out there working together to not crash but still keep your speed and line.

I evolved ten fold through this type of driving compared to street or trackdays. Its something everyone should do to become a more complete driver. MTC is designed to improve your skills and confidence in the right environment so you can make the move to competitive driving.
BTW, thanks Eric. Look forward to catching up soon.

Here is another one with some good examples of having to deal with traffic. My car was limping around all day so I was off the pace. The cars passing me are quick and on a mission but we all seem to work together with no accidents due to passing slower cars.

B24 i watched both videos they were races with like performance cars always a heap of fun. My point was at a general practice day anything can and will turn up. I wanted to make it clear that the group the mr2s would be in can include anything from excels to 300k+ supercars. Racing similiar performance cars is no worry, a mclaren with s closing speed of 180k+ as you are coming up to a corner in the wet or dry is a different thing. I hope everyone has a great day. Me i will be at the drifts that day.
