Lakeside General Practice Day - Friday 13th of March

Hey Guys

After coming back from the track day challenge, I'm trying to do a track day a month (or close to it)

so.... Friday the 13th of march is the next general practice day at Lakeside. For those that have never been, we all get put into groups and receive a few 20 minute sessions on track. I've never been to lakeside but it was pretty great out at Queensland Raceway

Details:
Starts at 9.30am and finishes at 4
Cost is $80 for a half day or $120 for a full

What you will need:
Long pants and long sleeve shirt. An Australian Standards helmet, open or full face
You will need an AASA licence, or you can buy one on the day for $20. A year licence is $50

It would be great to have everyone register their interest and how long a day they would like to do. That way I might be able to reserve some spots

This day is all about having fun, not necessarily setting blistering lap times. Not saying we wont drive fast though :)

I would be keen. I find it a little boring there's so little cruising groups around Brisbane (at least those that apply to my car, might stick out a little in the Celica club), and it's a bit tricky finding a good track day.

Assuming I don't screw up one of my questionable modifications, like modifying my drive-by-cable backup system in the coming weekends, I'm good to go - full day I suppose?

Lakeside is a great track with some nice corners and elevation changes.
Some people complain about the walls, but don't fear it, just respect it (Just like driving an MR2) and you will have a wonderful time!

The last time i went to a general practice session I was greeted with some crazy drivers. They would treat it like a door to door race and try to push you out in corners! I hope this wont be the same for you...

Thanks for the feedback guys, I might make a phone call and find out what other cars will be there, and maybe if all the street cars can be grouped together

I thought the idea was we would get grouped based on performance already. E.g. 4, 6, 8 cylinder, turbo/super and 4WD is what I see often.

Jjohan that is what happens on a time attack day. From my experience general practice is just that. The groups are usually gocarts, open wheelers, and tintops we are in the tintops so if they are coming you will be in with carrera cup porches excel cup cars moslers and mclarens and other superfast machines. You will be watching ur mirrors more than the road ahead. These guys are competition racers and dont give you much room

Frankly at practice days the onus is on the overtaking driver to make a safe move. the worst thing you can do is move off line or swerve unpredictably off lin. There is usually not that much grip off line and you are more at risk of having an off. Event organisers should be making it abundantly clear at briefing that faster cars are responsible for making a clean move and the slower cars shouldn't be having to move off line and risk their cars for them to make the pass.
