The joys of painting, unfortunately, getting a perfect finish is near on impossible, especially if you are particularly fussy.  Nothing comes close to a factory finish paint job (well, unless you are happy to spend more then what your car is worth painting it).

It looks amazing, I can't wait to see it without the distraction of those crap wheels!

There is an extensive build thread for my car here: http://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/tm.aspx?m=18316

Just a teaser for those who like thelow rise quad headlight conversion - after quite a bit of effort, the low rise quad headlights have gone in:

Looking hopefully towards a Friday pits appointment, TBC at this stage, and after th amount of disappoinments, set backs and let downs am defo not counting my chickens just yet...

Still no decent wheels in the pics yet either, though have revisited the ADR's and WA laws re: road-legality to make sure what I do end up putting on there are acceptable in the eyes of the law..

Patience isn't something I was born with...!!

Cheers

Here's a bit of a run down of what's getting installed prior to the pits appointment:

Late model steering column assembly to take late model genuine TRD steering wheel (SRS airbag model);
New leather wrapped dash w/red stitching, and full black leather wrapped interior w/red stitch to match - door cards, seats, pillarbox, gear gater, handbrake boot, centre piece;
Genuine TRD gear knob - black w/red stitch;
TRD White backlit dash guage cluster (eBay special!);
Dark metallic grey powder coating (to match front strut brace) for modified genuine TRD rear strut brace;
Genuine TRD front strut brace (already dark metallic grey);

The engine, brakes et al. are undergoing a full service in readiness for the regp/pits inspection - hopefully I'll be reporting good news and a clean bill of health come Saturday morning *fingers crossed*

To be honest am just really looking forward to seeing the whole project fully built, to see what it looks like outside of what's in my head(!!) with the full interior and exterior parts installed...

Cheers

Daz I assume you are going to the Kelmscott licensing centre? (As its basically behind WTF Auto?)

I have had bad experiences there with lightly tinted indicators - not sure how you would go with front ones you have now.

They are also (what I found to be) quite pedantic over headlight angles, and having the adjustment spot on but I am sure Tristan will adjust them perfectly!

Car looks great regardless - did I read somewhere this is going to be a daily?

Headlights look the biz,

Cheers pal!

what was the drama putting them in/getting them working?

There were some issues with clearance in the area of the rounded (outermost) corner of the headlights.

I can state categorically though that all the parts in the kit were present and correct as delivered from Rogue Motorsport, something which had been questioned previously.  Rogue were really helpful to deal with and came back with a full inventory and also offered to supply any "missing" parts free of charge - though it turned out there were none missing.

A massive thank you has to go to Tristan though, who persevered to get th elights in, as I wasn't going to accept anything else.  At one stage it wlooked as though iwould have to postpone the pits/rego appointment AGAIN to get the front bar re-worked...  But it looks like it's worked out so far - they're in at least...

Rogue are now interested in using the car pics as marketing material!!  Just hoping upon hope I get a positive response from the pits guys now...    Hopefiully I should as there are no major ADR non-compliances that I am aware of...  May have to fit the original amber indicators for the rego appointment though, if the pits guys don't like the shaded smoked units..  Though there are light emission tests which need to be satisfied, and I have a a strong feeling the units came with some documentation/claim that they've passed the tests in Europe/UK...

Like I said befoire, massively fingers crossed - I hope I deserve this last bit of luck to get a good run at the pits

Good luck Daz!!  From what I have heard, some of the pits people are reasonable, some are pr*cks.  Maybe a slab in the boot might get them in the right frame of mind??

I wonder if its better to try and have everything as stock as possible (but they might get picky just to pick something) or have 1 or 2 things blatantly wrong to give them something easy to pick, that you could potentially fix on the spot (eg blown headlight fuse)?

In anycase, from what you have been through you deserve them to be more than reasonable.

Cheers
