WTB: SW20 Boss kit to suit airbag equipped car. 92+

Hi all,

Just trying to help out a mate. Anyone have a boss kit to suit an SW20 92+ equipped with an airbag?
It has the long black plug sticking out which needs to pass through the boss kit. (Boss kit needs to have a hole for it)
Or if you don't have one available do you know the Momo part number that will work?

Pictured below is an attempt to fit the wrong boss kit. From the early model SW20 I assume.

Cheers,
Nick

Momo boss kits can be tricky to fit.
There is a Momo kit listed for 92+ MR2's Part number C 7728 that MAY be the one with a hole for the horn clock-spring.
But before buying you would need to check to be sure.

The Momo boss for the early models with a slip-ring is C 7715 (pic top left)

It may be possible to remove the slip-ring (it should only be glued on) and cut a suitable hole in the one you have already.

I have included an old pic I had of Momo adapters for comparison, but I'm not sure of the p/n of the one shown top right

Thanks for that Reddtarga. I saw that pic online this morning as well.

I believe the one he needs is the 7728 part number. It seems most people have been buying their Momo boss kits from Autotek in Melbourne so I think I'll direct him there if nothing turns up in the week or so.

I'll let him know about the slip ring removal, he may not want to make a hole in the boss though :)

    Cheers

Carmikey, has this one got the correct notch cut out for the black clock spring plug etc? Just a bit dubious as it says 1990-1998 when I think the airbag cars started in 92.

    I'm getting closer I think.

OT-122 is also the part number for the HKB boss kit which is here http://www.rhdjapan.com/boss-kit-hub-adapter-kouki-sw20-26476

With ems shipping its $63 AUD.

It appears to be the right one with the correct cut out in the back off it.

Problem is that it appears to be a solid cast one, unlike the Momo design that is collapsible which would be much safer in an accident.

^^ Mrskylighter - bit off the subject & not sure if anyone else had same issue.. just be cautious I have recently had a total of around $1500 refunded back to me thru Paypal as 'EMS' did not send my gear thru, not even answer any of my emails after payment had been made!

Its unfortunate as they have a lot of good stuff & good prices... maybe that's why.

Do you mean EMS Powered the company or EMS shipping from RHD Japan?

If EMS powered, yep they are dodgy. Well documented. They were fine in the beginning when new though many years ago.

That's what the collapsible steering column is for :)

Sorry - yes you are correct.. I should have stated 'EMS Powered', not EMS shipping.

That's fair enough comment, and I'm by no means a safety design expert but IMO a bit more protection can't be a bad thing when fitting an aftermarket wheel.
Apart from collapsible steering columns, the OEM wheels have a large rubber pad assembly on the front that is also mounted on flexible rubber mounts underneath that attach the pad assembly to the wheel.
OEM wheels have a lot of inbuilt shock absorption that aftermarket wheels are unlikely to match. (Of course most don't have any padding at all).

mine is a 90 JDM model with no airbag, but still had the plug, from memory its for the turning fog lights. toyota may have used the same plug for other purposes too, like cruise control, airbag etc..
autotek have the right one, and is genuine momo which is also a collapsible model
    cheers
