Randomity's Gen 2(ish) S-Dub

Hey Guys,

There's a whole bunch of threads I've read on peoples different builds/rides/whatever you want to call it, so I figured I'd post my own!

In late November 2012, my S13 died, so I decided to pull out the stops and buy a 2-seater sports car (I'm still young, why the hell not, right?). Was almost set on an MX5 when this one popped up!
When I bought it, it was a Gen 2 N/A with a (badly, by the looks of it) rebuilt, bored out, 2.2L 3S-GE, an exhaust that sounded like a Milo tin full of marbles, Gen 3 lights (with a 2 centrepiece chopped to fit), a 100W spotlight for a reverse light, Ferrari-style kit and front bar, some horrible, ugly (buckled) 18" rims, turbo engine hatch, recently crashed, fixed and resprayed in GTR grey.

In the last year, I've spent a majority of my time and money (and a good chunk of some of my friends too), working on getting this how I want it.
Since I bought it, I, too, had a minor accident which left the front bar cracked right down the middle, well beyond repair. Replaced the 18's with 16's and decent tyres, recently replaced with Super Advan 17's, got Gen 3 suspension, followed by BCR coilovers and Recaros (courtesy of EssDub for them), a stock Gen 1 bar and Gen 3 lip (Mrmr2), N/A engine hatch and Gen 2 wing (Carmikey), and a whole bunch or smaller things.
This isn't even mentioning all the mechanical problems, MAJOR oil leaks, sway bars being ripped out and extra stuff that several people have devoted their own time and resources to helping with (thanks guys!).
If anyone is after fabrication or any part in SA, I strongly recommend a good friend of mine (You'll find him at AT Performance and Fabrication on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/ATPerformance?fref=ts). This guy knows MR2's pretty well, and If you have questions but don't use Facebook, I can always ask on your behalf. He's keen on new things, and if there's a market, he can deliver!

Shameless promotion over...

As it is now, I'm waiting on the amber side indicators, which will arrive within the next few days (again, thanks to Mrmr2). Have a small oil leak which is suspected to be the front main seal, the alternator is on its way out (if anyone knows a good electrician in SA to recondition mine, advice would be great!), and am contemplating either an early Gen 3 or Rev 5 wing (or both for assorted uses).
Gen 3 rotors are also high up on the list to finish the brake upgrade and have the car track ready for November.

As it is now, I'm getting close to happy with how it's turning out, but still have a whole bunch in store for the car. Apologies to the MR2 Club of SA for my absences from the meets as I'm always working weekends, I'll find a day-job soon!

I'll be out at Mallala twice in November, and maybe Tailem Bend mid-December for its first track appearances. Getting pumped to give racing a go!

Picture time!

Might consider it when it's a dedicated track car... Still a daily now

There's a bunch of difference avenues I could go down in terms of engines. I'll start the decision making when I have something else to drive

Looks very nice. I really like the colour.

Personally I wouldn't install a Gen 2 - would go the 1 pce gen 3 as it would involve drilling a lot less holes and wouldn't require drilling in your rear quarter panels.

The main reason I was going to go Gen 2 wing is because the rear quarter holes have already been drilled once and filled and now the filler is starting to crack a little. The boot lid is untouched at this point.

Aesthetically, I'd prefer a Gen 3 wing, and it'll go well with the rest of the Gen 3 bits plastered over the car.

Also means I could go Rev 5 wing if I felt like it without re-drilling :D

Thought I'd post a bit of an update here, leading up to the Trackday Challenge.

Since my initial post, not much has happened. I missed both track days an Mallala due to my brakes not, well, working... I attempted to do the conversion, but royally boned myself and the car ended up off the road for 6 weeks.
Eventually I bit the bullet and paid for the Gen 3 conversion to be done by a mechanic friend of mine, and the whole system was then flushed by the local Toyota dealer.
This didn't fix the problem I was having (rears not backing off and eventually locking). Disconnecting the ABS seemed to help, but wasn't completely solving the issue.
SOME time later, in the last week, actually, it turned out that the caliper I deemed okay to install had totally seized. So that was rebuilt (definitely go genuine parts when it comes to seal kits. It's worth the money, and was actually cheaper for me), and I sorted out that final problem this morning by returning the pistons in both rear calipers back to starting position, and flushing the air out. They're running sweet now and braking force is incredible!

Getting ready for the Track day at Wakefield has been stressful, to say the least. 1 Month to prepare isn't a long time when you don't have any tyres, or money. Somehow, though, it's been managed, and there's just a few small details to iron out before we're ready to head on up!

Also had a few photo shoots and got some nice shots.
Everyone likes photos of nice cars, right?

    She's such a camera whore :3

Anyway, lots of plans for this year!
Going to get a better quality clutch. The Clutch Industries one was either installed wrong or isn't very good, because I get some noticeable slip when driving hard uphill. Maybe an Excedy HD will do...
Might go for a decent tune as well, see if I can't pump out a few more kilowatts. 90 isn't very much...

Also considering going down the BEAMS track in a couple of years/when this engine blows.
From what I hear, a Rotrex can bolt right on, and if you do it right, supercharging a BEAMS can work quite nicely.

Most surprisingly, this car is still my daily! I've been totally ignored by the HUGE blitzes currently being conducted in SA, have avoided defects and kept it (well it looks like it anyway), street legal!

Hope 2014 is as fun-filled for you guys as I'm hoping mine will be!
