1MZ diagnostic help

hey guys,
 
need some help relating to my 1MZ swap (again). i've got the motor wired up to the point where it will start and idle, but will cut out if you try and give it revs. i've wired in the check engine light and this is illuminated at key 'on' and during idle, so i'm pretty sure the ECU is unhappy with something.
 
does anyone know what options i have in terms of checking for codes?
 
my variant of 1MZ doesn't have a TE1 terminal in the diagnostic box, so i can't short it and check that way (i don't think). i don't have the OBDII port wired in, but am aiming to give this a shot later in the week. i'm not confident i'll be able to get it to work with all the other electronics from the camry missing though (no real clue).
 
i've seen mention of the OP1 and E1 terminals for diagnostics, but i haven't been able to measure anything yet. anyone know anything about these terminals?
