Toyotafest 2013 6th October Castle Hill
Just curious if the NSW MR2 club are attending the Toyotafest at Castle Hill in October. I will be there and hope a few of the other circuit car owners can join in. We may not be driving, but nothing wrong with talking shop all day.

The MR2 club of NSW will not be attending the Toyotafest in an official capacity, as the MR2 Nationals in Tasmania falls on the same weekend, that is the official club event (for all state clubs) for October.
That doesn't necessarily mean you won't see MR2 owners there with their cars though.
Oh and I assume you meant 2013.....

Yes, 2013. I just checked the dates with the Nationals. It's on the 27th till the following week so it does leave plenty of scope for the Toyotafest. I'm pretty sure there are very few people from NSW going to the Nationals so Toyotafest could be worth having the MR2 club join the biggest Toyota meet of the year. Maybe it should be discussed at the next meeting or send a email out to members asking if they would like to be there? No matter, as stated a few of the MR2 owners about town will come along. Cheers

Out of respect to the mr2 nationals and the organisers we can't organise toyota fest as an official event for the club, this means we won't be advertising this event with emails, website or facebook page! We dont mind for anyone to post information on the day in other events thread and very certain there will be an area for mr2's. Most likely next year we will go in as a club and organise a section for the club!

I misunderstand the point of respect to the Nationals event when everyone who is going to the event has booked and paid. It is highly unlikely anymore people from NSW will join the Nationals at this late stage. If they do, having the NSW division going to a Toyota car show the week after the completion of the Nationals will not influence their decisions. As for the rest of the MR2 owners of NSW who are affiliated with the club as a subscribed member or not, it would make good sense for the club to take a opportunity when it arises. Why you would not offer this event in a 'official' capacity to its members when most would jump at the chance to represent the MR2 NSW division to the 100's of owners in the Toyota fraternity and non affiliated MR2 NSW members?

Steve, The nationals actually is a 10 day event this year and runs from the 27th through to the 7th. With toyotafest being on the 6th there is a direct conflict with an MR2 Club event and and event held by another Car club. You don't hold 2 Official club events on the same day. And belive it or not as apart of a national MR2 club some events become your offiical event for the month no matter how many members are going. Let me try to put it to you in a way you may understand it. Your trackday challenge for instance, you are running this event. how would you feel I organised an official MR2 Club event on the same day you are hosting your event. this would put the message out there "hey guys don't bother going to B24's event when you can come to our event instead." How would you feel about this? Would you be annoyed that I was trying to steal potential entries away from you? Because thats exactly how the organisers who put heaps of effort into organising the MR2 Nationals feel about the situation. And I agree. If you had a bone to pick here, contacting the club committee directly would have been the best way to go about this.. Thanks Joel

Wow.... Gonna take MR2 Owners Club NSW off my list of clubs to support. Can now see why this club has fallen previously if this is the kind of attitude taken by leadership roles. If I run a club track day in QLD and on the same day Walter organises a QLD Club day out, I'm not going to get my jocks in a knot over it, I'd support it! The guys that are keen to race are going to race, the guys that are not interested or cannot afford to, will be able to enjoy another club event (Which is better then them having NOTHING available to them).

Aaron you are so far off the mark here it’s not even funny. What you are saying is totally different to the point I was making. I used the example of the trackday challenge to make a point as 2 times before Steve was told we couldn’t support Toyotafest “officially” and he had not seem to understood. I did not say I will be running an event at the same time. I have talked to the organisers of the MR2 Nationals about running a NSW club event on the same weekend as the Nationals and it was frowned upon. As I said, The MR2 Owners club is an Australia wide club . The same exclusion from running an event would apply to QLD, SA, WA and all clubs. Not just NSW. Aaron, you say if you organise a day the same day as the QLD club does you won’t care. And that’s fair. The difference here is from that situation is The MR2 club is hosting the Nationals. How can a state branch host an event on the same day as its parent club and not have a conflict of interest? You have to remember the MR2 club is a nation wide brand/business. At work you follow under your company right?, you don’t go out and compete with your own company and still work for them. I hope you understand now what we mean by respect for the MR2 Nationals. As we said earlier, the event I am sure some people will attend to, But we just can't attend the toyotafest officially.

Joel, I get what you're saying and half agree. However, would've been a much better approach to neutralize than bite back to what you thought to be an attack.
To intervene, the club would like to focus all efforts on increasing attendance to the Nationals. An MR2 specific event only held every 2yrs as opposed to the yearly ToyotaFest. However, if you're unable to attend for obvious reasons, Toyotafest is a good option but we won't pay it any focus "officially". Happy driving 😊 MR2life!

No worries Joel. Don't advocate the event as really don't care what you do. My goal is to hang out with MR2 owners whether they are member or not. The goal of the trackday which was put together with other MR2 owners and myself is for the same reason. In your mind, if that is arrogance, then in your eyes I am arrogant.

I think 2QIK is on the money here. I haven't read every post too closely but it looks like a lot of misunderstandings snowballing. It's the interwebs - a forum about something we are all a bit obsessed about. No point getting too angry as it won't get any of us anywhere apart from creating little factions. The owner wants as little moderation done by us as possible, I don't think it's required here. People have points to make but...

steve. I was just putting my position forward on the matter of toyotafest trying to make it clear as to why couldn't officially attend it. the arrogance i refered to was the fact you were told twice that we couldn't officially organse a club event for this and you still pushed at the club saying we shouldn't care about our other event we are running at the same time.
i agree with you that toyotafest is a great oppertunity to advertise the club but as said earlier there are restrictions to what the club can do at times.
I honestly didn't think of the post as an attack. i didn't mean it in this way if thats how you read it i appologise. But nuetral methods of explaining to yourself as to the reasons why did not seem to be getting accross so relating to you so you could understand was the only way i could think to do it.
thanks

I can see the reasoning on both sides and it is a shame the NSW club cannot Officially attend but I understand why. I was a director of a outdoor centre a few years back and a girl drowned there on the main rapid on the river. We knew where and why she drowned but could not fix it because that was admitting liability AND we could not do nothing because she HAD drowned there. Damned if you do Damned if you don't.
