Exhaust Cam retarded on a NA

Guys
I had my timing belt
pulleys
water pump (genuine)
and seals replaced just after my exedy HD clutch

and the mechanic found the exhaust cam to be a full tooth out of time, the tooth was one tooth LEFT of the timing mark. now thats retarded right? and one tooth is about 7.5 degrees? now, i read that retarding the ehaust cam by 6degrees on a TURBO will create a more efficent combustion cylce
so was this guy just stupid who owned it before me, or accidental?

My car has been very sluggish and chewed through fuel (380kms per tank.) my old Na got 500kms per tank and that was with the odd spirited drive included
also compression is top notch (180-178-182-181)
so im pretty sure this cam being retarded is the cause of it.
ill find out tomorrow once the car is finished.

any one can suggest what ignition timing to run, my old na was advanced buyt not sure to what, i heard 12 degrees is good for a turbo, so can i safely run 13-14 degrees just to get a but more low end-midrange kick.

Also plugs are brand new, leads are brand new, and new dizzy cap and rotor are to be installed so i dont think its an ignition problem, especially after finding oiut the cam timing was out...

Thoughts?

The std timing on the na cams is fine. Retarding the turbo exh cam brings it closer to you std na cam timing in fact.

Im not sure how advancing the base timing will help, as I understand it the ecu constantly advances and retards timing due to knock anyway.

But its most likely not so simple.

    Yeah
So retarding the exhaust cam on an Na
Would serverly reduce performance like I have experienced very sluggish down low?

Oh I was told they just turn the dizzy to adjust ignition timing
And I thought the earlier models weren't adjusted by the comp?
However I know my old one was advanced.

Fix the cam timing. Mine was a tooth out at the trackday(in the morning after which, it was reset)with same issues.
Check the timing with a timing light. Adjust the dizzy for the correct timing.

    Thanks Steve,
Yeah i knew it was a timing issue, but the slipping clutct needed attending to first :)

will update my showroom thread after this :)

If your mech found the timing was out when he fitted a new belt/ pump etc, surely its now installed correctly?
