Wakefield 6hr 2013 13/14 July 2013
The Wakefield Park 6hr is a regularity event for street and race cars. It is a two day event with practice and qualifying on the Saturday and the 6 hr on the Sunday. You can do the race with your Speed off the streets license or a higher level license if you have one. Each team can have up to 6 cars per team and up to 6 drivers. You can share drive if you like. Lap times are set at 1.09 to 1.25. Regulations can be found here http://www.wakefieldpark.com.au/events/6-hour-regularityWith 6 people entering the race, it will cost $250 per person. Accommodation/fuel/tyres are extra. I'm chasing accommodation this week. It would be great to have a team of AW/SW/MRS MR2's out there and at the cost of under a speed of the streets day, you can not go wrong. It's also a excellent way to increase your driving skills in a quick, safe, effective manner. The team name will be MR2 Trackday Challenge, Midship Mayhem, Mid Engine Madness, Team Midway or the likes. Register your interest, and hope we can put together a team for the 6 hour.

Wonder how my dearly beloved would feel about a trip to Mexico for our wedding anniversary? Probably not . . .

How many cars do you think will be on the track at once? The idea of 'rubbin's racin' isn't for my fresh paint!

Is this event held annually? Too short of notice now for me to get on board for this (I'm pre-booked to a combat robot event 2 weeks after it) but would definitely like to look at it as my follow up event after MTC2014 :)

It is a annual event with another one held at Winton. Make sure you contact when your in Sydney so we can hook up for a beer or whatever. I'm not sure how many teams have entered but its not like the Wakefield 300 where there is a 'degree' of rubbing. Its quite a civil event (not a race) with less risk than a speed off the streets day. There is a full day of practice on the Saturday which is worth the entry fee, but you also get the Sunday and a report on some websites.

One of the SW20 owners has called today who is keen on driving in the 6 hr. He has a 210+kw SW20 (ex targa rally). The car will have two drivers, the owner and his mechanic. His entry will be confirmed later this week. Hopefully he will be on board. There are three other possible cars/drivers entering. My car has a seat available (for a small fee) as my co-driver from the W300 cannot make it. There is still 3-4 weeks before the entry is due so there is still time to decide if you can enter. There is practice and qualifying all day Saturday which means plenty of track time. It is not a race as there are many street cars which enter the 6 hr. It is very similar to a speed off the streets day and safer. The reason being, people are not driving at ten tenths to crack some elusive lap time. The 6hr allows each driver to have one hour of driving. This can be 15min x 4, 30min x 2, 1hr x 1, whatever you like. A team manager would be an advantage. Anyone interested in this, put your name down. Accommodation will be in Goulburn as everything near the circuit has been booked.

Its about $100 a night for two at the Bakery Motel, 10 min's from the track. Tell her you will take her ' Christmas in July' at Katoomba. It is held around the same time. If you are lucky it will snow while you are there. If you are unlucky, it will snow while you are at the 6hr..lol

I had a chat with the organizers today. Looks like 10 teams will be taking part in the event. That is 10 cars on track at any one time so if you want a clear track for two days with a fair amount of track time, this could be a great option. Also, it a weekend which will not effect work. Hope to confirm some drivers by Monday.

Hi Steve, Count us in mate for the Wakefield 6 Hour, I will give you a call over the next few days but I can confirm that I am happy to enter my MR2 as part of your MR2 team, I will be driving and will also have a mate of mine (Ross) who will be there as my mechanic but will also drive my car on the day. Can you please confirm the maximum amount of driving each driver can do, given that you need minimum 4 cars and 4 drivers, is it just the case that you have the minimum cars/drivers and you see how it pans out on the day, or is it more specific than that? We are keen as, so I hope you get 2 more cars. Speak soon. Adam

Great to see you are 'on board' Adam. I will confirm maximum time later today. Glenn/Admin, is also driving. We have sorted out a deal so he can drive my car. I'm waiting to hear back from Alex and Dennis the Menace may also be in with a shot. Any more, and we will need to sort out a second team! Our competition is Team Corolla from the Toymods forum. They are old campaigners who will be tough to beat. Ric Shaw has a team of RX7's entered. Chances are, we will run with their pace. He is very good at clearing the field to help manage constant times. Also working on a team manager to regulate the campaign. Would be great to see a MR2 NSW member take up the role of team manager and race engineer but there are a few people who may come on board if they are not available. Race engineer is a kid in a candy shop for a IT nut. Do you have a radio? Radio's are a great addition.Head sets are $70 which are ear plugs with a mic fitted into the helmet. Really helps with driver/team management. Looks like 10-13 teams which means plenty of track time on a pretty clear track for 6 hours plus a full day practice on the Saturday. Will organise a meeting in a few weeks. Cheers Steve
