Where to service my 2?
Its time for me to have my 92 turbo serviced...but I don't know where I can go who I can trust - knowing all the dodgies out there. I used to work for toyota in springwood (brisbane) and I personally know they will try to avoid working on an mr2 at all costs. Where else can I go? It needs to be somewhere around the brisbane metro area..the closer the better.

I know this may seem like a smartarse answer but have a go at servicing it yourself. Is it just a general oil change/filter/sparkies ? or is it a larger one like the 100K ? there's heaps of info out there to do it yourself and its not hard at all. I do all mine myself, no dirty mechanic is touching my baby And if you need help, here's the best place to ask Cheers, Mark

Have to agree with Sparks there, if it's just a general service, far easier to do yourself. Takes me about 1/2 hour or so. I use Wayne's Auto Repairs in Yeerongpilly for anything I can't/don't want to do. Even though he refers to my car as 'that piece of ****' lol. Although it can be hard to get booked in as he's always busy, if not with customer cars, with his race cars.

I know I've already told you this, but if you dont want to do it yourself, the only person I'd trust to work on my car would be Lee @ Thomas4Parts at Sumner Park. And he is cheaper then probably any other shop around. Whatever you lose in gas to drive there you'll make up in the bill at the end.
He doesn't do alot of minor servicing and stuff, mainly does alot of more major projects. Engine builds, conversions (doing caldina 3sgte into RWD KE70 at the moment), machining customs parts. I've gone in there and seen him doing trivial tasks like wheel bearing changes & clutch changes. Great bloke, no bullpoo poo & reliable service. Is a fitter and machinist by trade (and still works a day job as a fitter machinist) so is a gun on the mill and lathe so if you need any custom parts or fab go see him. Being a smallish business he knows the value of his customers and looks after them all.

Well I want the oil/filter changed, coolant flushed, gearbox/diff oil checked?....and then I need 2 oil leaks to be fixed which I still don't know the cause of. I don't know how big a job the leaks are which is the main thing. Have asked R&T and they want me to take the car in but then have heard some things about them from various people saying not to. And personally if I was going to take an mr2 somewhere, that's the first place I'd think of considering their work with MR2's. I probably could do just the minor stuff myself. I will call Toyota tomorrow and simply demand they work on my car...it is a Toyota after all. In the meantime I'll look up some how-to's and see what kind of gear I'll need. I have no tools.

Ugggh, I was supposed to post a second bit, appears it timed out, stupid crap.
Let him know James sent you and I am sure you will come out of there beaming. I extend this invitation to everyone else as well. I think if you go there you wont go elsewhere.. I know I haven't, and alot of people know the issues I've had (and continue to have) with workshops.
Has rather weird open hours as he has another job as well. 1PM to 6PM are his official shop hours during the weekdays. Usually open Saturdays and some sundays also.
Give him a call on 33767390. His shop is at 4/20 Spine St Sumner Park.
Cheers,
James.

Another mechanic I'd recommend in Brisbane runs the BP Workshop at St Lucia (approx 250 metres from Toowong Railway Stn). Ask for James (Head Mechanic) and mention you are with Qld MR2 Club. He should be able to help you with quality mechanical repairs. Please, make sure if you book work with him that you turn up. Someone else I recommended booked but didn't turn up. James lost out and wasn't happy as he'd cleared part of his day to do the job. Not good for rep of the Club IMO. cheers Steve [:I]

Hey, I just got myself a mr2 turbo (picking it up this afternoon). Does anyone know a good place in Sydney to work on it? Its pretty much stock at this stage apart from brakes and suspension. Can't wait!

I know this thread has been dead for a while, but it's seemes like the right place to ask: Are there any places around Melbourne that anyone would recommend? The good old adub is due for some tlc.
